My Langley resident? What do you mean by that?

And, he's actually doing OK on points, by most D-Men standards. He's currently sitting 3rd in team scoring on the Flames, who last I checked lead the division.

Dion Phaneuf: GP:53, G:12, A:21, PTS:33, +/-: 4. 5 game winners, most on team.
Bryan McCabe: GP:43, G:15, A:34, PTS:49, +/-: 4. 6 game winners, most on team.

In terms of stats, not huge numbers like McCabe, but not bad by any stretch. And, your argument that he plays a lot only supports mine; Phaneuf, as a rookie, and having been put under the spotlight with a huge role, has delivered. McCabe can't make the claim that he's ever helped his team succeed. He's been traded so many times for a reason...defensive liability, and probably not well liked in the room.

So, your argument holds no water. Who's more likely going to help Canada win? That's the question. They don't need a d-man for his scoring, they need him for his ability to move the puck, and shut down the opposition. I'd take Phaneuf any day.
