Exclamation 2002 Province Cup (Men)

Probably a good time to start this thread up since we are only 6 weeks away from the first round... yes, I'm surprised that they are starting this early as well. Here's the schedule:

First Round : April 13 & 14
Quarterfinals: April 20 & 21
Semifinals (Nanaimo): April 27 & 28
Finals (Town Centre Stadium): Saturday May 11

Other than starting earlier than I seem to remember in past years, why the hell are the semis in Nanaimo? Furthermore, why is the final at Town Centre again? Fcuk I hate that pitch... What would it take for BC Soccer to showcase the final at Swangard where it should be? Is it money?

Wanting answers today not tomorrow,

~TB.

Thumbs up Nanaimo

Actually Regs, if your lucky enough to be playing on the Saturday, Nanaimo would turn out good... from what I remember playing at their wee stadium (back in College and in the Umbro U-21 League) it is a great pitch!!! could provide a great atmosphere (if anyone in that hick town cared about the beautiful game) Last time I was there the Gaffer and I won big at the Casino!!! So I'm thinking that weekend could turn out good (especially if you win)... besides the trip back on the ferry could be a riot with four teams from the mainland and tons of bevy's in their coolers!!!

Dont worry about the pitch Regs you guys wont even make the finals I do agree with you though. The finals should be at Swangard not Town Center. Its a better pitch and a better location for everyone.

Thumbs down

Guinness,

When you make it that far, the last thing on your mind should be pints. The point is the travel involved and that usually no one over there gives a fcuk unless 'their' team is playing.

In '97, the final was played in Victoria... they were celebrating "100 years of island soccer" and yet there was nothing in the papers and total attendence was about 40 (friends and family of the teams involved). It was a fcuking disgrace to put it mildly.

There is only one place that I think an island rep could do them proud and that is Powel River. That would be an experience to remember I'm sure.

Lightbulb Regs

Thanks for the lesson... I realise the top priority is the match that is why I think their pitch is great, I just thought the trip could also be a fun time... sorry Mr. Straight Shooter

What teams have qualified from the VMSL and FVSL so far? How does it work with the Imperial and Pakenham cups?

Who won last year?

Inquisitive bastard, aren't I?

Didn't that also happen in '99?

I'm just always suprised that they charge money to watch the damn thing and ban alcohol. I say play at Hillcrest. No, no . . . McBride -- then post-game at Elwood's.

Yankee,

No one has qualified thus far. In the VMSL, the 4 semifinalists get berths into the BCs. Then the top 4/5 in the league qualify.

I'm not too sure how it works in the valley.

Victoria Gorge won it last year

Upon doing a little homework, the top four in the Valley qualify, plus the two finalists for the Pakenham Cup. (If anyone in Vancouver cares!)

I guess that means that Poco City, Peace Arch and Alouette have qualified from the FVSL.

My personal feeling is that no matter who Sid's dysfunctional crew (Alouette) plays against in the opening round, they will get absolutely crushed.

Prediction: Pegasus to make up for last year's loss in the final and take it this year.

Post B.C.'s Locations

From what I have heard, the first two rounds are usually the home teams park.

Semi's and Finals are rotated between the Island, VMSL, and FVSL.
Last year the semi's and finals were at hosted by the VMSL, with the year before out in Chilliwack with the FVSL hosting.
And the year before that in Victoria.

So I guess it is the Islands time again.

This is tough, on one hand, an Island team did win last year (Vic. Gorge), on the other hand, how many times have there been 4 teams from the VMSL playing in Victoria in the Semi's.

Perhaps we need a seeding for the 16 teams in the B.C.'s, with the top seeded teams getting the home game.
When it comes to the Semi's and Finals, if it is VMSL teams in then play at Swangard or Town Centre.
If, but not likely, FVSL team, then play at Rotary or at Trinity Western (I have heard that it is the best pitch in B.C.)
If the Island, then in Powel River, they have the best fans in this Province, with the best songs.

I wouldn't mind the travel, in fact I think it adds a little something to the excitment of it all.

Trinity is the best pitch I've ever played on by far. They even have the "pro style" box nets. Which I'm sure HOS loves so he doesn't get his square heed caught in the round mesh after picking yet another goal out of the ol' onion bag.

BCFC#1?? Good one HOS.

......or even maybe 3 vmsl and 1 fvsl (1996) making the trip to the island. might be nice for us valley folk though, we dont get out much

Unhappy Trinity Western

Absolutely thee best pitch in BC bar none!!! good atmoshere too, with the one exception... No Pints allowed on School grounds!!! (although we brought them into the changeroom via an armoured van service in which I am not at liberty to mention) the pitch and surrounding make Swangard and Town Centre look like a track meet waiting to break out... wait a minute, isn't that what they are better used for anyway??? Regardless I'm sure Trinity will never be used for any BC Soccer tournament because it is privately owned and would cost BC Soccer a mint to rent it out... Being a PCSL player I can only hope they host a Challenge Cup in the near future so it can be taken avantage of...

Wink You Mean, Host a League Game

Why would Slurry be playing in a Challenge Cup game, that is as far fetched as having pints with AIA after a match.

BCSoccer has to pay for Town Centre, why not Trinity Western.

Default TW - Best Pitch????

We played at Trinity Western on Tuesday night in the freezing cold and the only thing more shocking than the game itself was the pitch. It has more sand on it than Jerico beach.

Absolutely shocking!

The nets are like the ones in Europe but the field was horrendous and extremely disappointing.

From talking to some of the guys, they say the snow and continual training on it has ruined it.

Post Jonesy

Good point about the sand, but a few lads from Trinity were telling me last night that it was just sanded and from what they say about last year it is in prime shape by late April... they sand it now because Fraser Valley Action's season starts in a couple of months and is followed by Trinity's season... from late November till March it is not used for much... Too bad you played on it at a bad time (kind of like Golfing Northview right after their greens have just been punched and sanded)... Hence, SHOCKING!!!

Cheers, Guinness
