Default Another score

Columbus 2-1 Gorge O-35

I heard Columbus showed up in Victoria with 11 guys and squeaked it out with only a couple of minutes to go.

Next Round:

SU vs. Peace Arch
Westside vs. Lobbans/Lomas
Columbus vs. Inter/PAOK
Freybe vs. Peg/Celtic

Can anyone fill in some blanks?

TOTAL MARINE CELTIC 4 vs PEGASUS 1

The lads played well & was a good game, once we got going. By the time our 4 o'clock kick off started, it was five.

Peg are a good side & the game was close, we definately deserved the win though! We were up 2-0 by half.

We lost Ronnie Cuthbert, 19 minutes into the second half by a hard but careless tackle. Ronnie's in Royal Columbian hospital with a broken tibia & fibia. Just heard he won't have it cast as the Orthopedic surgeon will put a rod down his tib. We will miss the wee man as he's a leader game in & game out.

1 down, 3 to go. Were in the process of having some hats made up!

This was typed by a bystander at yesterday's game. Comical and very well written (bias)

Kenny, thanks your jokes..... just to let you know, Ronnie Cuthbert broke
his leg tonight during a cup game which we won 4-1 over Pegasus....
In my books, he is/always our best player..... other guys play well, he
plays well always....

Up to the accident, he was playing a solid game and was well on his way to "
Player of the Match " honors!!!!!...... Bruce Mac came on after the delay
and tallied two blinder's to secure the win....... in the meantime.......
( well done Bruce )

The game started out at a firm, and deliberate pace, and after Peter Kerr
tallied early for TMLI Celtic with a first time crack that broke the netting
in the first half of the first half ,the club gained confidence from there
and again tallied, scoring about 15 minutes from half time when Tony Weber
took a pass from an unidentified midfielder and screamed towards the Pegasus
Goalie flicking the ball like a Phil Mickelson lob shot up and over the
Goalie into the net????

Up by two at the half, the Celtic clan withstood a berage of Pegasus might
early in the second and eventually took the game over again with clean,
crisp, precise passing which frustrated the Pegasus team. Strong play by
Celtic midfielder Robbie Hadath and back line anchor Alex Barnetson, were
key contributor's........

At the approximately the 64th minute, a hard and questionable tackle
between key midfielder Ronnie Cuthbert of TML Celtic and a Pegasus player
not to be named in this article ) in the middle of the filed left Celtic
star player down and reeling........ It was not apparent until a few
minutes later that Ronnie was very hurt as his typical demeanor delayed most
peoples reactions......

With the crowd silent and the realization that Ronnie was in pain, it was
no. 21 of the Pegasus team that took over. How lucky for us, he was a
Paramedic........, we found out quite quickly by his take charge attitude
shouting out to other Fireman players what to do, within minutes, Craig had
called for an Ambulance, the Fireman players had brought First Aid gear
alongside and Ronnie was receiving treatment....

Ronnie was given " laughing gas " to take the pain away as they prepped
him..... taking as much time to move him as if he was a Canuck player on the
ice.... it was very impressive

With Ronnie on his way to the RCH, the remaining 26 minutes was still to be
played and senior player and Tutor Phil Brown along with " Custodial Manager
" Craigo Olley, gathered the players just prior resumption for a quick gut
check!!!!! " Let's do it for Ronnie was heard from the crowd and the Celtic
team did not disappoint......

Bruce Mac came on at the 70th minute and quickly showed his " Super Sub "
reputation is fast becoming known around the league, he headed home the
third tally for the Celtic's from a precise cross from Jimmy another sub
made by Manager Olley.

It looked like clear sailing for the Celtic's when a breakdown in the
midfield left the back line scrambling and a quick header gave the Pegasus
team one back and brought them life.....

For a short duration, it looked like Pegasus were pressing again, to no
avail, another cracking goal by " Super Sub " Bruce Mac put the last nail in
the coffin and the final whistle blew thereafter......

It was a great win for the team, it was also a great loss for the team....

Ronnie, your always " player of the match in my books "

Look forward to hearing the detailed game reports from the other team.

Default Update

Well now I see why Hedkandi was silent, Lobbans beat them in the opening round.

Q1: Surrey United (FVSL) vs. Peace Arch United (FVSL)
Q2: Lobbans (WCOTSL) vs. Westside Miloni (WCOTSL)
Q3: Columbus (WCOTSL) vs. Club Inter (WCOTSL)
Q4: Freybe FC (NSCSL) vs. Total Marine Celtic (WCOTSL)

Craigo, that's too bad about Ronnie, he's a real sparkplug in the middle for you guys.

My prediction: WCOTL will have at least 2 teams in the semi's...

Unhappy Yes Peter...

Meralomas 1 - Lobbans 2.

We enjoyed our game and played well. We had most of the possession, and camped in their half in the second frame. (we built a fire but forgot to light the fcuker ) Many a shot that the CFL would have hired us for.
1 early PK for the Lobbans and 1 other shot, a toe punt were their only strikes. Lobbans defended well and protected their shaky keeper. Solid game, fun and both teams played hard. We should have, could have...

Still, it was a pleasure to be given a chance in the last BC Over 30's. Now I'll have to wait another 3 years to be able to compete in the BC's again.

Congrats to Ballbaby and yes to you Peter - solid away peformance! Keep the NSCL fire burning Freybe.
Good luck all in the next round.

Default Ronnie and Brian

Too bad about Ron's injury...it reminds us about the whole family and career thing outside the game.
I guess we'll have to wait until next year to see the Cuthbert brothers' reunion in the BC's

Post Ref

Peter,

The Ref was good. His linesman (I mean the assistant Refs ) were cold and were getting cold as they were blowing into their hands for warmth.

We started as if we didn't have linesman, so we sat back too deep at times in the first half.

The Ref handed only a yellow to the Lobbans Left Defender. He let the game go and played the advantage. He took no shit. He was good.

But I never have a problem with Refs.

good luck next round

Exclamation 'boro boy...

I wondered why Peg had been so (seemingly) effortlessly cast aside. And then I saw the name Phil Brown. Say no more, say no more. Class, even if he is now 79 years old (conservative estimate).

Fastshow,

Is Phil really that olde? We stll get a good 35-40 minutes a game out of him. Actually, hits a great dead ball and still very tricky with the ball at his feet.

I'm gald we won, as the Gunners took it to his Boro team on Sunday, he needed a bit of a pick me up!

We certainly didn't cast Peg aside so easily, they are a good side and we had to work for it! It's nice to get a win.

Wink royal and ancient...

He's older than olde. He remembers Jesus growing up in Middlesbrough for fcuk's sake. Just ask him.

Jesus's family owned the Gelato shop near Ayresome Park. Probably.

He's got a left foot that I would put up there with the likes of Captain Shamrock and I can't say better than that. He's also the best coach I ever had and a thoroughly nice man.

I'm glad he won too, even if Peg was my club. At least he didn't have to put up with watching 'boro lose in deepest darkest Arse territory the way I did. For once in my life I was very, very quiet.

Best of luck n the next round but if you're drawn against that Ballbaby's side keep an eye on him. The man's a nasty piece of work make no mistake.

Thumbs down Vegas line

The word is that the line in Vegas improved in SU's favour when 5bt's declared himself match fit for the week end

Default 2 scores

Westside 4-2 Lobbans

Columbus 2-0 Inter

Inter gave it away. Westside deserved the victory. Looking forward to playing (read, watching) the FVSL...I like our chances this year.

Cool SU moves on

3-1 ...Two red cards, two penalty shots, an interesting 2nd half substitution ( ballbaby may have bit but Rags was in fine form.) No team handshake this time around(you never know?)...goals by Marini, Howes, and Harkison...despite the aggro the boys kept their cool and march on to the semi's
I think PAU may have found their new poster boy
Oh , and despite what he says Woodsy went studs up on my knee and Bey's ankle...but didn't mean to

Here's a pic of Chalky stroking the first penal to make it 3-1
Unfortunately...someone missed their second one...oh well, there's always nations cup.

No, I didn't bite. I was just being a bit too eager in the penalty area. Questionable call but it happened right in front of the ref. He sure went down easy for a "tough guy".

The second half sub was none other than the guy who suckered Howes a couple of weeks ago and the guy I fouled in the box today. Here we are thinking he is banned from the league, and they put him in second half. In all fairness to the Peace Arch team, they weren't too impressed with the sub themselves. However someone made the call. No big deal. If it was meant to get some of our backs up, it may have worked for a while, so perhaps it wasn't a bad strategic maneuver, but we gathered ourselves.

One pretty tasteless comment was from sillyrabbit himself. Oh yes, I recall, "He's going to get you next Spiro." Think about it sillyrabbit. Think if I'm really intimidated by that. Do you think any of us would be so stupid to take a red against someone like that just to get back at him?

Kudos to Peace Arch. I like their tenacity and they have some great players, but we move on and we've had some tough games of late which should help us down the last stretch.

Westside next week. Rematch from last year and I hope to share a swig from their single malt after the game, win or lose. That's the way it's supposed to be. Pete knows that I'll still kick him if need be. Right Pete.

Default The Rubber Match

Ballbaby,

This is becoming an annual event and I believe it's our turn this year, n'est c'est pas? I'm glad we're meeting in the semi's rather than the early rounds like the first two.

So who got carded? It sounds like you guys are getting kind of cranky in your later years. My mom swears by lawn bowling and claims it has helped her stay regular and able to concentrate for longer periods of time...it might be time to move on.

If you really need to, you can kick me. I don't mind. But if you do, you're going to look like more of a hothead than you already are: I've been watching from the sidlines for the last bunch of games (I think the last one I played in might have been an exhibition against the Sundowners) due to what the doctor calls an "arthritic knee of a 65 year old".

And if you want a swig off the single malt, first I want to hear who your team "appreciates" (or something to that effect) en masse, and then you have to shake our hands, win or lose.
