| Premium Member A Better Bastard | I agree SirM, Steve has no Caps with Scotland at the Nations Cup and Brian has started on many a team to become Nations Cup Championships, there is no fruit comparison here, the WhiteCaps should honour Sapperton and the retirement of #6 into the bleachers of Swangard. hos |

| Member | With Apologizes I must apologize to Steve Mac. He was one of the better players in the lower mainland in his day and continues to be a dominant player in the masters league. Again, Steve, I am sorry. My slag was not intended to be at him as a soccer player, but a piss-take of the Whitecaps and USL in general. I've stated many times on these threads throughout the years that I thought the whole "professional" league in Vancouver, after the NASL, was a joke. Everyone knows it, all the Whitecaps brass know it, thus their attempt at the MLS. Again, after some sober thoughts, my "whoopdedooo" towards Steve being an accomplished player was out of line. "Whoopdedooo" to the Whitecaps and their "defensive 'system'.....not like the Italian National team that just sits back"..........Jeff Clarke 2006. ![]() |

How is it a joke? People come out in good numbers (In a few of the markets mind) and they put on a decent show (The music and canned chants during the run of play is a little maddening) I bet you TFC will lose a few if not all their games against The Caps and L'Impact in this years Canada Cup CONCACAF Qualification Tourney...It is purely a joke because there are better local players not playing because they can earn more money at their "Day Job" than the Caps can often times afford to pay them. That being said I don't think it is a joke...far from it... Vancouver as a market should always have been a part of the MLS from Day 1. Unfortunately LA had the only western based team, now there are two teams there...had they done that in the first place and included Seattle, Porkland, and Vancouver initially it would have been a good success imho...instead there are teams in the midwest that are so-so competitively and in their ability to draw crowds. Having pro or semi-pro footy here isn't a joke, it may have been run like a joke at times (both at the club and league level) but I think overall the 86'ers and subsequent Whitecaps teams and management have done a good job...with what they are trying to accomplish, which is to fill a need for Soccer to watch in the "Off season" where things are done right (Admission, beer gardens, proper supporters etc...) as for their attempt at the MLS, it is the natural next step and they would be selling themselves and us in the community short if they did not persue this option. | |

| Give Me Strength A Better Bastard | RF, that reminds me, and when you get to my age, you will understand what I am talking about (PS, stop cooking with Aluminium pots like NOW). Has Sir M ever posted his story about 240 Gordy and all of the others from Seattle International Raceway in Kent?

| Member | Delta vs Vantreights was not a pretty game to watch. Sloppy soccer to say the least. Neither team really played much possession, too much long ball. Our finishing was terrible which is not the norm for us. Vantreights on the other hand really scored on every opportunity they got, they finished well. In the end we did not adjust quick enough to hold the win in OT (Watch out for the freakish throw-in across the field). Full credit to Vantreights for not quitting when they went down in OT. They regrouped and pulled out a big win. The most painful part is that one of their own players made a comment about how they had no right winning the game. Nobody likes to hear that and I can't fully agree with it. Hopefully I don't sound too sour ![]() After the game both teams enjoyed beers and chili dogs. Nice group of guys and I wish them luck. Just wish it was us moving on ![]() |
