Question Trouble with VPD's Jamie Graham. Again?

Quote:
VANCOUVER/CKNW (980) - It was meant to be a funny gesture, but no matter the intention -- a joke is prompting yet more headaches for the Vancouver Police Department over the actions of its chief.

Jamie Graham has come under fire following a complaint from Vancouver city manager Judy Rogers.

The complaint stems from Graham placing an old shooting range target on Rogers' desk along with a note saying, "a bad day at the range is better than the best day at work."

The VPD has issued a written statement about what happened, but when pressed by reporters, media spokesperson, Tim Fanning refused to discuss the matter.

In the statement, the chief likens the incident to an "I’d rather be fishing bumper sticker," and says he's since apologized to Judy Rogers.
Is anyone else seeing what the problem is with this? I know I'm slow, but I still don't see what the complaint is all about. What does the note mean? Is it a joking threat about shooting her?

I don't get it.

It is a tempest in a tea pot that the recipient Judy Rogers is creating. However, jokes like that are plain stupid at work as there are only two outcomes and one of them is bad -- like this one. So why do it if the recipient of the "joke" can make a huge deal about it and put some heat in the media on the joker. In part, I guess this strikes at the heart of good judgment and obviously, the Chief in this case didn't think through what might happen if the joke was misinterpreted. Maybe he viewed her as a good friend and colleague but she has other views of this.

I think he said it was like the bumper sticker "I'd rather be fishing" and not intended to be anything else.

It says something about the over sensitive recipient who is attempting to make a mountain out of a mouse turd. What does it say about her judgment but then again the heat is just him on now.

The "i'd rather be fishing" bummper sticker works.......when it's on your bumper and not on your bosses desk.

Why didn't he just skip the target and write a note saying "Working in your office Sucks!"

I still think she overreacted about it though.

A front page article like this represents the fukced up society we live in..............cannot discipline kids, yet one gets roasted/judged for his/her kids attitudes to peers.....cannot make simple jokes amounst friends/workers without running it through a panel to see if it has any negative connotations. We are fukced, everyone should lighten up.

I think anytime you place a bullet-holed shooting target on a woman's desk you're asking for trouble.

Couldn't he see this coming?
