They are as good as anyone going forward but besides Carvalho are they strong enough in the back?? I guess the same could be said for the Dutch.

Guinness, he retired from the national team after the World Cup, plus he did his knee about a month a go.

Anyone but the Portugese please. The only trophy they'd pick up would be for diving.

Don't count them out for best dressed. Those olive skinned Portugese look pretty wonderful in Maroon.

Exclamation Italy captain Cannavaro out of Euro 2008?

Ouch .........

VIENNA, June 2 (Reuters) - Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro looks likely to miss Euro 2008 after suffering an ankle injury on Monday, Italian media reported.

The defender was taken to hospital after colliding with Giorgio Chiellini in Italy's first training session in Austria.

'(Cannavaro) has damage to ligaments in his left ankle,' Vienna hospital doctor Franz Maria Kainberger told ANSA news agency. 'It is possible Cannavaro will have to be operated on.'

An Italian football federation spokesman said it was too early to assess the damage.

However, Cannavaro told reporters: 'I'm going home.'

The world champions flew into their base south of Vienna earlier on Monday.

Italy face the Netherlands in their first Group C match in Berne on June 9 before playing Romania and France.

Yeah, but was he ever going to get a shift with Robben and Van persie favoured for wing play over him?...

The Eye-Ties losing Cannavaro is epic...

Quote I found.

Edwin van der Sar is satisfied with Holland's form going into Euro 2008 but lamented the loss of teammate Ryan Babel to injury.

Euro 2008

VdS: Babel will be missed | 5 weeks
The Oranje beat Wales 2-0 in their final warm-up game on Sunday, but Manchester United goalkeeper van der Sar's satisfaction with the result was tempered by the withdrawal of Liverpool attacker Babel after he suffered ankle ligament damage in training on Saturday.

"We have worked hard and played well but it is a real shame we have lost Ryan Babel," said Van der Sar, who has a record 125 caps for Holland.

The goalkeeper is set to retire from international football after Euro 2008 and stressed that Bert van Marwijk, who takes over from coach Marco van Basten in July, will not be able to persuade him to continue.

"He has hardly any chance, no, none," Van der Sar added.

Van Basten was pleased to head to Austria and Switzerland off the back of a win but believes his side should have scored more.

"If you see again today how many chances we created, we really must score many more goals.

"We have an interesting group of players who can go far."

Surely it can't be that tough to replace a midget fullback.

Babel barely gets minutes for Liverpool he's not a huge loss for the Netherlands.

If you saw Cannavoro's form this year at Real, I'm kind of glad he's out. He's lost a step. They need some new energy and this will open a spot for somebody. Let's be honest, Italy doesn't need any help at defence anyways
