| Kick'n it old school... A Total Bastard | Any rumours out there for the up-coming season? What's this I hear about PAU moving clubs? Any truth? 6'5' is joining the other Delta team? Lion is going to the Rangers? Cooper ate all the chicken pies? J-Becker is moving to Surrey United? Last edited by knvb; 07-07-2006 at 09:30 AM. |

| Kick'n it old school... A Total Bastard | Rumour has it the FVSL scrapped the CAT system. Can anyone confirm? What a great idea as long as clubs with Premier, Div 1 and Div 2 can move players up and down as they see fit. Well, maybe a restriction on the amount of player at a time going up and down, but if it’s true, good on them. |

| Kick'n it old school... A Total Bastard | As I hear it there is no movement down. What’s the bloody point if you can’t send guys down? Why the hell would a club have more than a Premier side? Why are they not rewarding clubs for doing it right? If you thought fringe players weren’t happy about sitting on the bench and playing CAT games before… just wait until they never touch the pitch now. Premier sides will lack serious depth if they can't keep these roll players happy, won't they? Last edited by knvb; 07-13-2006 at 04:11 PM. |

| Premium Member A Better Bastard | If that's the "roll players" attitude, why would you want them? Bring up a Div 1 player full time and get rid of them.

We will now have two division 1 teams in our club. The league is going back to its familiar beer league format of the past by scrapping the development system created by the clubs. Our CAT team will be our second division 1 team and we will try to utilize the system as best we can to move players between both teams until the Cup deadline. In other words we sign 11 core players to Premier only and the other 29 will be signed to division 1.... ![]() Not sure what else we can do to try and keep the development program intact as we build and develop our future premier players. I think I'm going to apply for Dick Bate's job and make it mandatory for all teams to have a club format to qualify for any amateur Provincial recognition. ![]() | |

| Member | Crafty & KNVB: agreed. Here they had a chance to make it better, but, two steps backwards. Allow 5 players per week to play a level down. Simple. Most prem squads carry around 18-20. Doubtfull that no more than 15 get into a game every week anyhow. As for allignment, this will be interesting... Some Cat teams should play 1st, most should play 2nd, and a few should fold. Can predict Langley's will fold.

| Kick'n it old school... A Total Bastard | Dude, kindly stop agreeing with me. To be honest, it gives me the creeps. Crafty, I have enough groups, ethnic or organized, not to say that ethnics aren't organized, you see, that want my head on a stick as it is , so please tell me you at least attached your name to that and not mine? |

| Member | Agreed that it seems stupid that prem players can not move down. I think we'll really see the old cat teams (new div.1 teams) really struggle after the signing deadline. The premier teams will go from 11 players signed to taking the 4-5 best players off the div 1 teams. Right idea, wrong outcome. |

| Member | Outkast...nail on the head there. That's exactly the problem...if they allowed 5 players / week to play down, they wouldn't be hurting anyone, and they would be encouraging clubs to use the club system. I know for a fact that this rule will affect some players decision, either to sign up and play less, or sign down and forgo premier alltogether. There are more than likely some vets out there now that will choose to retire from Prem, instead of signing w/ Prem for Cup purposes, but playing mostly down. Shame...unless we're not getting the full story here. Coach? What's the scoop. I know you read this... ![]()

| Member | I spoke w/ an Anonymous Soccer Source from inside the FVSL league executive this morning. My ASS tells me that the reason why they did not allow any premier players to drop down to div. 1 in the regular season was because it could have an inverse affect on the integrity of that division. My ASS feels that by allowing any number of Prem players to drop down (weather that be 5, 10, or unlimited), it could lead to certain 1st Div teams stacking games on any given week. Here is a scenario my ASS put forward: let's say the North Delta Lions, as the halfway mark rolls around, are having a shitter of a season and in danger of relegation, but their 1st Div team is hovering near the top of their division. My ASS feel that the opportunity would be available for the club to save their Premier spot, rather than let it go down the toilet, by stacking the 1st Division team so as to ensure promotion. My ASS suggested that Clubs can still use the club system to their advantage by only signing the 11 or so core to Prem, and the rest down to 1st. This would allow those 1st div signed players to play down up till the signing deadline, when they would most likely be transferred up. After a bit more prodding, my ASS also offered up the following juicy tidbit: there will likely be 20 teams in 1st next year. This means some of the Cat teams will move over, and likely some 2nd div squads will be moved up. My ASS feels it can find room for an extra 10 teams. Astonishing, I know, but apparently my ASS is up to giving it a go. Personally, I like the idea of 14 teams: two sides of 7. Play teams on your side once, then one cross over game. This will mean every Div 1 team has 19 league games, instead of 18 last season. My ASS doesn't like the idea of a cross-over, but I digress. Honestly, there are likely only 4 quality Cat teams that should move over: Golden Ears United S.C. Delta Metro United Peace Arch United Chilliwack Rapids The other would likely be fine in Div. 2, or simply fold. If you looked at last year, the top 4 seemed to be the only ones trying to make it work, anyhow. The rest were just filling space and obligation to the league. Any comments on the stuff coming out of my ASS?
