| Member | I was reading an article in yahoo.com news about the controversy on YouTube.com about a parody of Green Day's American Idiot (done by Weird Al Yankovich) called Canadian Idiot. Apparently it has some patriotic nasty stuff going back and forth. It got me thinking about singing and chanting at football matches, the upcoming World Youth Cup this spring and how embarressing it would be if we had nothing to chant and sing about when we score/get scored upon/get chanted down by another nation. The states have a travelling group (Sam's Army) who believe that they can 'chant down' even the best of them. How embarressing it would be if we get drawn in to play them, they start in on us and all we have for them is "boo" or "Go Canada Go". Is there anything that we can say or model that would work for us or are we going to be the laughing stock of all opposing teams? What about other nations? When England plays Germany they always bring up the two World Wars and who won. It would have to be something smart and would have to be 'ONSIDE' when it's balancing along the line of stereotyping or worse - racism. A few suggestions: 'Don't wanna be a/an _____________ idiot! -Green Day - obvious 'Love me or hate me Still an obsession Love me or hate me That is the question If you love me then, Thank you If you hate me then F@#$ you!' - Lady Sovereign http://www.mtv.com/?source=CTY_CA#/music/video/ I would rather be a _____________ than a Yank! I would rather be a _____________ than a Yank! I would rather be a _____________! I would rather be a _____________! I would rather be a _____________ than a Yank! Any others? Who are we playing in the first round anyway? |

| Respect & Honour A Total Bastard | Interesting topic Jonesy! No idea on chants but I do know that the draws for the WYC are not until March I think. Cheers, ~Regs.

| Not too bright BANNED | Buckfast, I am making a complaint on behalf of football playing 25 year olds with id saying their 18 everywhere. That is low and uncalled for. Fcuking Brilliant! I have no idea how anyone can find the Weird Al stuff offensive and how it can create controversy is beyond mer. He is fcuking known for taking the piss out of current songs. All he does he use the stereotypical "facts" about Canada. The song and album is bloody funny, we were listening to some of the stuff today at work. This is some politically correct bullshit. What's next, Nerds are going to get pissed off by white and nerdy and the depressed are going to freak out about You're pitiful. Bullshkit! Last edited by BlazeArmy; 11-23-2006 at 01:32 PM. |
