UBC's Mosher to lead Canada's soccer entry at 2009 Summer Universiade

UBC's Mosher to lead Canada's soccer entry at 2009 Summer Universiade

Published: Friday, May 30, 2008
VANCOUVER - University of British Columbia men's soccer coach Mike Mosher has been named head coach of Canada's men's soccer entry at the 2009 Summer Universiade.
Mosher, who has been head coach at UBC since 1996, was an assistant to Montreal's Pat Raimondo at the 2007 Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand.
That team lost in the bronze-medal game.

The 25th Universiade is slated for July 1-12, 2009, in Belgrade, Serbia.
"My involvement in Thailand was a terrific experience with so many quality people and I really hope we can have a similar experience in Belgrade," said Mosher.
"With the group in Thailand, we raised the bar very high for future teams, having come as close as a team possibly could to winning a medal. But we will set our goals high once again to try to make a medal a reality for 2009."
Named as assistant coaches were University of Western Ontario's Rock Basacco and Alan Errington from the University of the Fraser Valley.
Randy Bardock from Alberta's University of Lethbridge was named team manager.
Mosher played with the Canadian Olympic team from 1989-92 and represented Canada at the 1995 Universiade in Japan.
He led UBC to four Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship games (1997, 2001, 2005 and 2007), winning the Canadian crown in 2005 and 2007.
The Summer Universiade takes place every two years and is second to only the Olympic Games in terms the number of participating athletes and countries.

The Masters (over 45) Universiade is in Switzerland June 20 - 22nd. Defending World University Masters Champions Inter-UBC will be back defending their title from 2006 while catching a few Euro 2008 games around Austria and Switzerland... could it get any better than that?
