Barcelona and Parma to star at Millennium Stadium (27 July 2004)

European football giants, Barcelona and Parma, will play at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on 14 August as part of the 'Cardiff Capital Challenge' event.

Spain's Barcelona and Italy's Parma have a rich history in European club football and should prove a huge draw to both Stadium and Cardiff. Charles Mitten Sport Promotion and Millennium Stadium contacted both clubs as part of the City’s centenary celebrations.

The match will hopefully feature former Celtic striker, Henrik Larsson, who switched to Barcelona during the summer, and Millennium Stadium General Manager, Paul Sergeant, hopes to persuade World Cup referee, Anders Frisk, to take charge of the proceedings.

The event will take place a week after Premier League Champions, Arsenal, take on FA Cup winners, Manchester United, in the traditional Charity Shield season opener.
