| Member | So Jovonovski is out for the Olympics. Who should replace him? McCabe is having a great year. I'd say he is a bit of a liability on defence, but his offensive ability is good. The bigger ice might be an issue for him with his groin in rough shape. Or Phaneuf. This kid is THE total package. Hits. Scores. He can skate. Plays 5 on 5, PP, and klills penaltys. Easily the best defensmen not on the roster or taxi squad in my opinion. And to top it all off, he isn't a Leaf. ![]() It's pretty obvious who my pick is. Is there another D-man out there who should get the spot? Who? |

| King of the PK's and a A Better Bastard | No question McCabe...best defencmen this year....if Belfour started drinking and doing cocaine again maybe McCabes plus, minus would be better. This guy will be a MVP defencemen in the Olympics just watch ![]() |

| Not too bright BANNED | McCabe and Phanoeuf are likely both to go with Jovo hurt and neidermayer needing surgery. He gets 2 weeks off for olympics so he takes a week before and after olympics off and has surgery and barely misses any important games. esppecially with them looking to push into the playoffs. |

| Member | Fcuk, you're coming up with some beauties these days Guinness. Phaneuf is Canadian, so who gives a shit where he plays. Besides, the West is a tougher conference than the East, where one-shot-wonder McCabe plays, so I give more credence to Phaneuf. Also, what has McCabe ever won? At least we know Phaneuf knows how to win.

| Member | Would be nice to see both go, but as far as who deserves it more, that would be Phaneuf, although Mccabe will probably be the one who ends up going. Either that, or Scotty Hannan should have gotten the nod. Doesn't put a lot of points up, but easily one of the best defensive players out there. |

Are you on glue....until McCabe was hurt he was the best defencemen in the league....his plus minus is bad because like I stated earlier Belfour is off the cocaine and can't stop beachball. Jovo is not good he turns the puck over way to much and is cronically injured now..

| Member | Biased opinion...you're a Leafs fan, and have shown to be sniffing some sort of white stuff (glue, coke, Tide, pick you poison) in the past when posting on Leaf related issues. They are a weak team playing in a weak conference, and McCabe gets a boatload of PP time. Phaneuf does it all, and should go instead of McCabe. ~Awaiting a brilliant post by Guinness...

Biased opinion.....your langley resisdent, and have been sniffing plane fumes, cow shit, lime, fertizlier pick your poison)Calgary has no defencmen thats why Phaneuf plays lots of minutes......then why does he have little points its the olympics not the NHL....you need d-men who can get you points!

And, he's actually doing OK on points, by most D-Men standards. He's currently sitting 3rd in team scoring on the Flames, who last I checked lead the division. Dion Phaneuf: GP:53, G:12, A:21, PTS:33, +/-: 4. 5 game winners, most on team. Bryan McCabe: GP:43, G:15, A:34, PTS:49, +/-: 4. 6 game winners, most on team. In terms of stats, not huge numbers like McCabe, but not bad by any stretch. And, your argument that he plays a lot only supports mine; Phaneuf, as a rookie, and having been put under the spotlight with a huge role, has delivered. McCabe can't make the claim that he's ever helped his team succeed. He's been traded so many times for a reason...defensive liability, and probably not well liked in the room. So, your argument holds no water. Who's more likely going to help Canada win? That's the question. They don't need a d-man for his scoring, they need him for his ability to move the puck, and shut down the opposition. I'd take Phaneuf any day.

ex: Gretzky: "You scratch my bum, I'll let McCabe play" Quinn: "He's a team player and always drops the soap like Messier used to" Gretzky: "We'll take him then" Quinn: "Good, now I don't have to hear him winge in my office anymore" My vote goes to Hannan and Phillips over both lads. Younger vets in their late 20's... Hannan has a World Cup medal and is very defensive minded (he's also from Surrey which means he's street smart) Phillips is also very strong in his own end, but also jumps up into the rush very well... Neither will hurt Canada... The Poof is still very in-experienced for a defenceman and McCabe gives up more defensively than Lumme ever did in Vancouver!!!![]()

| Member | I think Phillips or Phaneuf (sp?) will be the next two guys that will be going. McCabe, like someone already said, won't suit the bigger ice especially with a bad groin and Hannan and beaumeister(sp?) would be also considered. Hard Ballz
