I don't think it has declined at all in terms of atmosphere. In terms of the football there were a lot of talented players on display this weekend at all levels. It's better now because it isn't ONE team winning 6 or 7 years in a row or 9.........There is more balance in the tournament now and I think that is better for everyone............Canada, China, Ireland, and Caribbean. I don't think too many people had 3 of those 4 teams in their final 4. BTW, it was unfortunate for India to have Argentina show up with a skeleton squad but I have to be honest....I remember 2 times where the exact same happened AGAINST us(Ireland open). It's unfortunate but this isn't the first time this has happened to a team.......

Desig. driver- asked to go out and get some water and a snack....
security. No.
Driver-please, there is nothing to eat or drink inside the garden.
Security-not my problem.
Driver-u can watch me go, I will be 2 minutes.
Security-u leave, your out and have to wait.

Driver asks tourney reps, they say tough luck and suggested that someone on the other side goes for her.
What a ****ing joke, this has to change considering how many actually drive home drunk. WHo will be held responsible.... the tourney and the security. My biggest complaint, otherwise a good laugh and some great soccer.

I'm almost positive the organizing group, ( excellent job again this year gentlemen ) have no say in how the beer gardens are operated as they do not receive any profits from it and for that you have to look at how the City of Richmond handles senior amateur sports. Shameful! I will make one prediction for next year and that is there will be a lot more coolers in the parking areas.

"India over Scotland in the o38 final?"

Okay, who brought in the ringers? We (zzzGermans) beat India 2-0 (needed to be 4-0 to go through, but couldn't put away the extra ones). They had speed, and touch, and some hard luck, but didn't look that much like world beaters.

Must admit, I didn't get to see much of the other side of our group except for a tiny bit of Ireland/England, so couldn't really tell what the quality of play was like. On our side, a couple of dohs stood out for us, and unfortunately, they involved reffing:
1. some drunk Ingerlish Rangers player (Whistleblower) missing a dodgy offside against Canada in our first game...
2. assistant ref in our game against China mistaking the yellow line for the white one at centre and blowing an offside call there. At least he apologized to our guys later.
3. Chinese player getting his second yellow (and subsequent red) for doing something really stupid: asking for 10 on a free kick and then blasting it before waiting for the whistle.

Oh well, dare to dream Arnold. Had we finished chances a bit better against China, we would have been through instead of India. Next year, I guess. Kudos to all involved for the organizational effort; just wish there was a way to have more civilized liquor laws - playing in the last game on Saturday and frantically trying to get creaky old bones to the biergarten before closing only to find "you have barely enough time to slam down the 2 brews you've stood in line for 10 minutes waiting for." Oh well, any rentacop deranged enough to want to search my soccer bag full of just played-in gear deserves all the aromas they experience.

Tailgating seemed to be far more prevalent this year and I can only see an increase unless they can expand the numbers for the beer garden. 300 person capacity is far to low especially when they capped it at 250 because they were saving 50 spots for the 2 teams in the final.

lets just say .... as above mentioned.... about the outside Beverages in Coolers around the park ..... I agree that the way the Beer gardens are being run right now is pushing people to do just that ( more so then in the past ) .

I don't have to say it but it's just going to invite police action ... Police on the beat around the park (walking and bikes ( not Capt Shamrocks) );... worst case road blocks

kinda getting Away from what this TNMT's about and rather dishonour's all the hard work
Jeff Wilson and Crew put into this ... and without saying everything Geoff and his friends have done

Sign of the times in our society. Some in our society think this position is progressive but the rest of the world would see it as regressive. It may be the Nation's Cup but this is most definitely Canada. Still happy to be here.

Final updates are now complete.

After I introduce myself to my family again, I'll post more.

Cheers and thanks to everyone who made the 29th Nations Cup one of the most successful and enjoyable tournaments of all time.

Hey Trece if you beat India and you both were tied for first why didn't you guys advance? Shouldn't head to head result be the first tie breaker?

I think head to head is actually #5 or so in this tournament for tiebreakers. As far as the security in the beer garden goes, it (as far as I know) it is a matter of hiring people. So if there are enough complaints about Genesis Security (who are quite a reputable private security firm), I am sure they can look elsewhere.

All in all, a great job by Jeff and everyone this year. Kudos.

Quick question: I saw the best ref in Canada doing an open semi-final but not the final - what gives?

Termato:

Like SirM said, head-to-head was down the list. We were told that the first tie-breaker was goal difference.

Still flattering to be able to say that we beat the eventual champs.

SirM: I think the complaints about Genesis's personnel may be attributable to some of their employees not having enough experience in this kind of situation. I mean, who in their right mind would want to search the soccer bag of somebody who has just come straight off the field?

Thought the tourney was run fantastic, like it is every year. Every game has 3 officials, even though some of them are unsure what a PK is, but at least off-sides were getting called. The fields are all in great shape, and you only have to go out for a 60 minute game.
Thought the beer garden was great on Saturday, but I had an early game, so I could enjoy it. The problem that I think there is, is perhpas location of the garden, especially on the Friday, when spectators want to have a beer and watch a game on the turf fields. Yes, I bet it is imposible to play with the location of the garden, but it would super to have it between the oval and turf, so people could see both.

Thanks to all that put on another great tourney.

hos

SirM, if you have that napkin please burn it.

No.......Scotsmen and Irishmen are both Celts(pronounced with a 'K'). Guinness is from a part of Ireland in the northwest corner of the island, so therefore is eligible to play for Ireland. Simple really............
