Scott Stevens got more comfortable in shoes instead of skates during the yearlong NHL lockout. The New Jersey Devils defenseman announced his retirement Tuesday, ending a 22-year NHL career in which he was one of the game's top blue liners. During last season's lockout, Stevens said he fully expected to return when the labor dispute was settled.

I guess you could say he was one of the better D-men of the last 10-15 years, but his penchant for the "a little late cheap shot" sort of spoils his aura for me. Good player. Good Canadian guy, but a little too cheap for my liking.

This will hurt the Devils more than they know.

In a related story the Toronto Maple Leafs have had to but both Eric Lindros and Jason Allison on the 15 day IR list with sore hands. Its been reported the injuries happened simultaneously just minutes after the Stevens retirement announcement came through. A massive high 5 is being reported as the main cause of the injuries...

al macinnis will announce his retirement friday, september 9 at the ripe age of 42.
