| Respect & Honour A Total Bastard | The other night, I witnessed an absolutely stunning goal by Messi vs Mexico in a Copa America 2007 matchup - Here it is: What I also have found is a brilliant video clip comparing a famous Maradona goal with one scored by Messi... unreal!
Here is another uncanny comparison: Look familar? ![]() Anyways, do you think Messi is creeping up to Maradona 'standards' (minus the lifestyle of course)? Post your thoughts and add any vidoes you may find of either/both. Don't forget to vote above either! Cheers, ~Regs.

| Sad Bastard A Better Bastard | I think you have to wait and see... Messi could be better due to his appearing to take care of himself, he is young. Maradonna could have played for longer, and prolonged his greatness, but his lifestyle proved he faded away too quickly. Messi is a world class talent, at such a young age....he could be better, but you have to wait untill the career is nearly over to tell imho. |

| Member | Two comments: First, there have been sooooo many people over the years that were supposed to be the "next Maradona", but nobody really made the grade. Messi is the closest yet IMHO. When I first saw the two goals by Messi I thought wow, it's creepy how similar to Maradona's goals they are, when he is supposed to be the Next God. Messi is amazing on the ball, people can't strip him of it, he beats people at will, is an amazing passer, and is one of the best and most clever at finishing...all attributes that he shares with Diego. However, he's got a looooong way to go to get to God status in Argentina... Maradona single handedly won the World Cup for them (yes they had good players around him, but no way does Argentina beat Belgium, England or Germany in 1986 without him...watch those games, he won those games by himself). Also, when Maradona joined Napoli I believe they had just avoided relegation, and he turned then around and won a couple of championships RIGHT AWAY...again, all Maradona. So untill Messi wins a World cup for Argentina mostly through his efforts, and untill he can win club championships without relying on a team with Ronaldinho, Eto, and Deco, then Diego is still the only God! ![]() |

| Member | Nicely put Sage. When Maradona arrived in Napoli, they were not a strong club. In his first game, I believe the first half or few moments of the game, he scored a goal. He brought a couple Scudetto's to Napoli. He was the golden child of Naples. Scored many goals, but set up just as many. He made everybody around him a star on Napoli. Yes, we can compare the goals, but no way is Messi even close to Maradona status yet. LION |

| Give Me Strength A Better Bastard | Yes I have to concur, a really nice player, tons of potential...but at this age to be compared to perhaps the greatest of all time? Not yet.
