| Give Me Strength A Better Bastard | Ok, six weeks in the books now, and staff have been working hard. To start off the year, VISL are not included (even Power Rankings staff have been feeling travel restraints but will certainly welcome any input from our friends across the sea should they want to get involved, input would certainly be welcome and the Islanders can be involved as well). Top 20 to start off the year, but cannot promise that level of enthusiasm all year long: October 16, 2006 edition of Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings: 1. Westside F.C. "A" (VMSL Premier). Their dismissal of a feisty PCOV side this weekend without Merkl and JC on the field (at least in the 2nd half) bumped them to the top, impressive year thus far despite the loss of erudite gaffer Peter. 2. West Van F.C. (VMSL Premier). A very deep side, and have been on a bit of a roll since 15 mins into the Columbus game, outscoring the opposition 12-0 since then. Players coming back now. 3. Surrey Utd.. (VMSL Premier). Always a force to be reckoned with, involved in close games each week this year, but getting results. Defeating Columbus with or without Sal and Benji is nothing to be sneezed at. 4. Metro Ford Wolves (VMSL Premier). Strong in the back and strong up front, would have been #1 if not for letting VFF back in things Sunday. 5. Sapperton Rovers. (VMSL Premier). Recent additions of quality players has pushed perennial middle of the packers right into the top echelon. 6. Vancouver Firefighters (VMSL Premier). BC champs, can still beat anyone on any given day at this level, case in point the recent comeback against MF with a 12 person lineup. Signing Andy M will help them for sure. 7. Columbus F.C. (VMSL Premier). Staff will get flack from SCK, Peter et al on this ranking, but still rate this side as very dangerous and able to beat anyone at any time. Will be there at the end especially if they address their backline. New goaltender is an improvement...(How old is Luca?). 8. Peace Arch United (FVSL). A traditionally tough, scrappy team, top of the table thus far in the valley, albeit with slightly less competition than in previous years. 9. ICSF Inter (VMSL Premier). Not their best start ever, but when RZ returns are expected to move up. 10. SFC Rangers (FVSL). Loss of a few players, and a bit of a watering down of competition has caused a bit of a drop: but make no mistake, this team were crowned National Champs just a bit off a year ago. Enough said. 11. Portugese Club of Vancouver "A" (VMSL Premier). They were not good on Sunday, and missed Fonseca...from what Sir M saw they miss SCP in net. 12. Coveside F.C. (NSCL). New signing Rosie bumps this side's credibility significantly, also featuring quality players like Roddy, Eamonn Ward etc, and work extremely hard. Handled Wickham easily in pre season, top of the table on the North Shore. Depth may be an issue. Well coached. 13. Wickham F. C. (VMSL Premier). A good side, defeated VFF 3-0 and gave SU a run for their money. Consistency and depth will be issues in the long term. The 9 PM Fridays Griffin turf home spot will double their point total for the year. 14. Richmond United (VMSL Premier). Newly promoted, have struggeld thus far, but tied WV and Inter. Could be a tough go for them to stay up. 15. Cliff Ave. F.C. (VMSL Division One). Some high quality players, this years edition of the 05-06 Metro Ford Wolves? 16. Aldergrove F. C. (FVSL). New to these rankings, always tough at home, scrappy, and like to date sheep (just kidding boys).17. SFU Alumni. (VMSL Premier). Disappointing start this year, will have to pick things up not to be relegated. 18. Nordic F. C. (NSCL). One outstanding player (Tee), some good players, some not as good and a few crazies, basically a good bunch of guys. But you know they could put it together on any given day. 19. Sapperton Old Boys (FVSL). OK this is a bit weird two teams in two different leagues with the same name, which is Ottawa and which is Saskatchewan? Doing well this year in the FVSL. 20. Delta Metro United (FVSL). A slow start this year for the perennial BCs spot contenders; staff think they will improve as the year wears on. Glad thats over. Good luck to all teams this week.

| Respect & Honour A Total Bastard | I like it but saying that a tie against the defending BC champs drops a team 3 spots from first to fourth seems a bit harsh... I think Metro Ford is worthy of the #1 spot, I really do, Metro Ford is great! No offense but how can not one but 2 NSCL teams make the top 20? Are you using the BCS criteria for some of these? ![]()

| Give Me Strength A Better Bastard | Peter, noted, thats my mistake. Will make amends next week, sorry (at least I didn't call you Trollups mate). Regs, just reporting what Staff have reported based on actually watching teams play (ie the NSCL reference). Things are pretty tight up at the top, but the Rankings are heavily weighted on recent performance and your blue and (slimming) black striped faves have dropped 5 points in their last 3 games, unworthy in Rankings Staff's opinion of a number one seeding. But as we all know, this thread is all about differences of opinion.

| Member | Good job on the rankings except VFF let MF back in the game - not the other way around. Surprised seeing Westside at the top as defence is very slow and defence wins championships. Wickham would be my #1 pick if the BCs were played on their field at 9PM on Friday nights. Sapp and Westvan should be up there so good picks overall. Nie to see on any given day top 10 are all close - at least the top 9 who knows about the Rangers - are they still playing the Manitoba Moose ???? |

| Respect & Honour A Total Bastard | I would like to kindly request a name change in the SMER 2006/07. Surrey FC could easily be confused with the club that just cokced-up the Open Nationals recently and that is FAR from what our club is about. I won't request BRM as much as it is loved but a simple Surrey United or SU will do. Hell, even Scum is better than Surrey FC.Thanks! ![]() PS. Metro Ford is excellent!

Uh Steve I think the team you are looking for is a couple spots down from Columbus. Are you suggesting Inter not be in the top 10? | |
