Default Challenge Cup- Ladies

Surrey United 4 Okanagan Predators 1

From the Surrey United web-site.

Quote:
In the Challenge cup-final Surrey United met the host team,Okanagan Predator who had looked very impressive the day before beating a depleted Seattle Hibernian team 6-1 in the other semi-final game. The predators were well supported and roared on by the home town supporters but the experienced United team was well prepared for that and were highly motivated themselves and ready to play. United dominated the early play with some fine possession football and saw two cracking early shots that whistled past the woodwork but had to wait until the 29th minute to open the scoring. United midfielder Teri Lazar, made a smart play, when with her back to goal she laid the ball back to Kristine Jack who thumped a left foot rocket into the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area. United forwards Wilkinson and Blaker were in outstanding form and were a constant menace to the Predator defence throughout the half but were unable to add any further goals before the half.

Okanagan worked hard throughout but the game was won and lost in a crucial five minute spell in the early part of the second half. At the 55minute mark and following some fine left wing play, Blaker beat two defenders and fired over a cross which was handled by an Okanagan player. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Bianca Wilkinson calmly strode forward to fire the penalty shot into the corner of the net. Three minutes later following some fine interchange play between Jack and Blaker at a corner, Blaker fired over a perfect cross which midfielder Sarah Nanerry headed into the net from close range to give United a three nil lead.

Okanagan, to their credit continued to battle hard and in the 70th minute pulled back a goal when United defender Andrea Sumner unluckily headed the ball past her own keeper. With United's 13 woman injury depleted roster starting to tire the home side responded with some fierce pressure but United's defence stood firm and added some further insurance at the 85th minute when Megan Blaker broke clear, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the unguarded net.

GAME MVP: Megan Blaker
Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Kylee Saxton
Congratulations Ladies. It's not the Provincial cup, but it's something.

I think the Burnaby Canadians Womens team has the last two Provincial Cups, and is off to the Canadians for Thanks-Giving you Turkey.

Wink

Thanks for the ramble HOS. It's good to see someone is picking up the slack for SC while she's away.
