Default PCSL Results & Banter 2005

The more things change the more they stay the seem to stay the same... Only 2 games into the PCSL season and the Pentiction Pinnacles have already found themselves on the wrong side of two lumpings. 6-0 to the Saints (Seattle) and a 5-1 stuffing by the White Caps reserves, which looks more like Inter summer team. Corrazza, Kindel, Van Shaggen etc...

From the Caps game...
Quote:
The Whitecaps FC Reserves opened their inaugural Pacific Coast Soccer League season with a 5-1 win over the visiting Penticton Pinnacles, Sunday afternoon at Coquitlam's Town Centre Stadium. Striker Andrew Corazza was the star of the match, netting a natural hat-trick, as the young Whitecaps put on an impressive showing in their first game together.

Corazza opened scoring for the Caps after a quarter-hour, as he neatly deflected a 20-yard shot from midfielder Brian Vanschagen. Corazza almost added a second before the half was over, as he broke in alone and curled the ball past the keeper with authority, only to see the shot thump off the upright. The floodgates opened after the interval though, as just a few minutes into the second half, a shot from Steve Frazao was too hot for Penticton keeper Johannes Von Westphalen to hold, and Corazza was in quickly to net the rebound. The SFU star completed his hat-trick ten minutes later as he headed in a high cross from the left from fullback Massumi Turnbull.

Some sloppy defending allowed Penticton's Paul Savaro to find space in front and pull a goal back late in the game, but the Whitecaps answered quickly with two goals of their own in the closing minutes. First Kingsley Jones fired in a loose ball from 10 yards, and then Steve Frazao headed home from right in front to make it a 5-1 final.

It was an excellent start for coach Chris Bennett's young side, in a well-played and entertaining match. The Whitecaps Reserves next take on the Vancouver Thunderbirds, on Thursday May 12 in a 7:00pm start at Town Centre Stadium. Admission is free.

Whitecaps Reserves: Dennis Kindel - Massumi Turnbull, Paul Ballard, Leo Nash, Diaz Kambere - Brian Vanschagen, Kingsley Jones, Nico Marcina, Stephane Leslie (Jag Gill 58') - Andrew Corazza (Matt Ornerod 64'), Steve Frazao.
What does WAB think about yong Mr. Ornerod (I thought it is Omerod) playing for the Caps and not the Sapp summer team? I bet you guys would have beat us in the semi's if you had this Paul Savaro guy. He sounds like a player.

Check your bag sir? I hope he at least bought him dinner first...

A few more PCSL results cut and pasted for you...

Quote:
The Vancouver Thunderbirds played their inaugural game in the PCSL Tuesday night and came out with a 2-1 victory against New Westminster Khalsa in an entertaining match played at UBC’s Todd Field.

The T-Birds came out strong and scored in the 11th minute when Paul Bahia whipped in a good cross which Luke Sandilands got on the end of only to have it pushed off the crossbar, but Ben Decosse was there to convert the rebound. Vancouver had some more chances in the first 30 minutes to help themselves out, but failed to capitalize. At the 32nd minute mark Khalsa’s Matt Mori took advantage of a deflected pass that put him in perfect position to score and he made no mistake in equalizing the game at 1-1. This was the score at the end of the first half.
In the second half it was Khalsa who came out strong and carried the play, but they could not convert from a few good opportunities and Thunderbirds goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic also made some fine saves to keep the visitors from taking the lead. Finally in the 75th minute, Luke Sandilands broke the deadlock when he notched on a header from a Paul Bahia free kick to give the T-Birds a 2-1 lead, one that they would hold on to through the end of the match.

This is the first year in the PCSL for the Thunderbirds. The team is based out of the University of British Columbia and holds a strong link with the varsity squad. The team is coached by UBC Head Coach Mike Mosher, and the majority of the squad is comprised of players from the varsity team, incoming players and UBC alumni. The Thunderbirds next match is Thursday May 12 vs the Whitecap Reserves, 8:00 pm at Coquitlam’s Town Center Stadium.

The Whitecaps Reserves raised their record to 2-0-0, thanks to a 2-0 win Thursday evening over the Vancouver Thunderbirds. There were Whitecaps playing at both ends of the pitch in this game, as Serge Djekanovic, the backup keeper for the Whitecaps first team, got the start for the Thunderbirds, and did well to keep the game close.

The Whitecaps controlled the balance of play in the first half, and only good saves by Djekanovic, off a powerful free kick by Brian Vanschagen and a hard low blast from Kinglsey Jones, kept it scoreless. The Thunderbirds' task was made even harder just before the break, as they were reduced to ten men when Mike Elliot was sent off for his second yellow card of the night at 42'.

The Whitecaps increased the pressure in the second half, and were soon rewarded. At 58', forward Alex Elliott broke down the left and sent a low cross to Andrew Corazza who rifled it first-time from 15 yards for his team-leading fourth goal of the young season. Ten minutes later and the Whitecaps doubled the lead, as a cross from the right from Stephane Leslie made it all the way over to Massumi Turnbull at the edge of the box on the left, and he calmly took a touch to control before firing a low shot into the corner.

The Thunderbirds' best moments came late in the game, as they pressed for a goal of their own, and created several good chances. However they couldn't beat goalkeeper Dennis Kindel, who came quickly off his line to palm away a shot on a bouncing ball from Martin Ferriera-Pinho, then turned back a blast to the near post in close from Luke Sandilands, and finally made a spectacular diving grab on a shot from Ben Decosse.

It finished a 2-0 win for the Whitecaps Reserves, who next play the Okanagan Challenge on Saturday, May 14, in a 3pm start at Coquitlam's Town Centre Stadium. Admission is free.

Whitecaps Reserves: Dennis Kindel - Paul Ballard, Leo Nash, Diaz Kambere - Massumi Turnbull, Brian Vanschagen, Kingsley Jones, Nico Marcina (Jag Gill 80'), Stephane Leslie - Andrew Corazza (Matt Ormerod 70'), Steve Frazao (Alex Elliott 37')

What a novel idea- write ups that look professional including naming the one where the Whitecap players and subs are listed. This is something the VMSL Premier League has to do if it is to gain better recognition. The Willi Weekly doesn't cut it nor does reading the write ups on TTP where you need a program to figure out the nick names.
