Rangers have ended transfer talks with Switzerland international and Stuttgart midfielder Hakan Yakin.

As the Ibrox side could not agree terms with the player's advisers, the former Basle man will not be signing with the Scottish giants.

Rangers director of football Martin Bain told the club's official website: "After various discussions, the parties involved have been unable to reach agreement and, as a result, this matter will progress no further."

Gers boss Alex McLeish had hoped that the 27-year-old would strengthen his midfield.

Meanwhile, Rangers claim defender Jean-Alain Boumsong, despite linked with moves to Newcastle and Chelsea, is staying put at Ibrox.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly watched the French international play for Rangers in the Uefa Champions League against CSKA Moscow last week.

But Boumsong's agent, Willie MacKay, states that the club has told him a move is possible if a big enough club is interested.

He said: "Rangers knew they were getting the best Bosman signing in the world. But Jean-Alain was told he would be able to move if a big club came in.

"Others were reluctant to gamble on him, but David Murray was brave enough to take the chance and it's paid off."

Boumsong is in training with the French squad for their World Cup qualifier against Israel on Saturday.
