24hour Soccer Marathon

I can't make it so I thought I would make a post here to show my support.

I just came across the FVSL website in the process of trying to find creative means of promoting a soccer event that some friends and I are organizing for this coming Nov. 12 & 13. I'm hoping you can help!

My friends and I recently accepted a challenge from our church to take $100 as seed money, make it grow, and then do a random act of kindness in the community. We found out about a family from Quesnel BC who has a 2 1/2 year old girl recently diagnosed with an acute form of leukemia. The family is facing financial uncertainty as little Emily will be undergoing over two years of treatment, shuttling back and forth between her home and BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

We decided to put on a 24-hour soccer marathon to raise money for the family and the extra expenses they will be facing over the course of Emily's treatment. The event, "Kick Cancer for Emily" will take place on the November long weekend, Nov. 12 & 13, from 10 am Sunday - 10 am Monday. We have Exhibition Park field in Abbotsford booked for the event, and we are already taking pledges, etc., but we are still desperately in need of players! While a few crazy members of our group are personally planning to do 24-hours straight, the real idea is that individuals can pledge to play for as little as an hour at a time, as the game will allow unlimited substitutions.

Would you be willing to get the word out to your team members? We are open to players signing up on an individual basis, or the possibility that a couple teams might want to reserve an hour or two, out of our 24, to play an exhibition game against each other.

All of the event details are located on the following site: www.aokaldergrove.org/emily. From this site players can sign up online, and donors can make pledges and/or payments. We are also keeping a running tally of pledges as they come in.

I sure appreciate you taking the time to consider this request. With many people opening up big hearts, we are certain that $100 will multiply in a big way for this family.

Great idea. Great event. Hopefully we can all realize how lucky we are to be healthy, and that we do something to help when someone so young has to go through such a horrible ordeal.
