Angry Vancouver Breakers

Anyone read the "puff" piece by Gary Mason in today's Vancouver Sun? The thing that really strikes me is the point he makes that they women "don't make a nickel"... yet they manage to outdraw several A-league men's teams.

Doesn't this seem odd? Where does the money go from the gate? Prowave? Whitecaps? Why can't it at least fund better travel arrangements and lodging for the women?

I'm perplexed.

Default Still perplexed but anywho...

Breakers won their semifinal last nite 1-0 on a golden goal by Andrea Neil.

I suppose this thread will get one more post before it fades off the TTP radar screen.

Default One more post to keep the thread rolling

Andrea Neil the free kick specialist, well done by her.

Its good to see that they're playing against some stiff competition
and coming out on top!

I've been to a few games here and some of the teams were absolutely horrible,if they win the whole thing, they should move up to the W-League,where they can match up against the best in the world!I think they would do well!

Speaking of horrible teams, the Breakers played against a team who could only field 9 players. Granted, I could be a pot calling the kettle black, but jeez, a professional team only managing 9 players?

Jimmy,

Have you heard what the cost is for the team to get into that league? Agreed that there competition has been poor for the most part but still winning a league title (no matter what league) is impressive!

This is in the wrong thread but I ask the above question cause of the unreal number that I heard that the men have to pay to get into the MSL..............25 million just to get in the league So we know there won't ever be any better soccer coming to Vancouver anytime soon!

John

Yeah I guess your right,I wasn't looking at that way,but they have 8 national team players on their squad and look what they have to go against. No wonder we never progress.

I agree a championship is great no matter at what level, but at the same time its not at the highest level that these girls are capable of playing at.9 players in a playoff game, thats ludicrous!

Slight correction: the 9 player game was only the last game of the regular season. Nevertheless, still a little hokey -- makes it look like a Mickey Mouse League.

Default Major correction on your minor correction

The game that the other team showed up with 9 players was a playoff game.

Default Minnie Mouse

Quote:
Stuart Hunter The Province

The stormy skies may have cleared but the on-field lightning still shocked the Vancouver Breakers in Saturday night's W-League final in Virginia Beach, Va.

After waiting out a three hour delay due to a severe electrical storm, the Breakers suffered a power outage of sorts courtesy of two lightning-quick strikes by the Boston Renegades, who went on to win a soggy league final 5-1 before a paltry crowd of 213.
Electirically storm delay of 3 hours or not, 213 in attendence is a joke. For that matter, so is playing a Final Four style championship with no rest between the semis and final.
