[VMSL Division 2] 2007-08 Combined Ranking

Not enough games have been played yet to give real shape to the ranking table. We need at least 6-8 games before the numbers begin to liven up. I have excluded the teams that did not play. No real shocking results were posted. Lets see what this upcoming weekend brings. Hopefully, there will be more pitches opened up.

PowerScore Div: 30 minus your Div Rank.
PowerScore Wins: Your total number of Wins multiplied by 2
PowerScore G.F.: Your Goals For total divided 2
PowerScore G.D.: is equal to your Goal Differential
The overall power ranking is a sum of the above items plus your league Points.

I was just thinking tonight about changing(lowering) the weighting for Division Rank as that is one of the gaps I was trying to close in having a combined ranking for all of Div2...hmm...

Excellent work, Dr. B! The rankings are much appreciated.
I was wondering if there would be any consideration of the ranking of our opponents in determining score? It would probably be a complete nightmare to incorporate something like that, but it would be cool if beating a top team 3-0 was worth more than beating the bottom-dwellers by the same score. I think FIFA uses something like that.

Actually, on second thought, ignore all that. FIFA's rankings are a joke, even though they employ a huge army of statisticians. As long as the ranking system ensures that YFC stays on top, I don't care how you make the numbers dance

2. Disparity in games played is playing its ususal havoc but earlier this year compared to last. It will ease as more games are played.

It's good to see the C-Men so far up the table. They've had a rough few seasons, and it looks like they may finally have found a team name that works.
Kosova, on the other hand, seem to have finally imploded completely. I would've thought that they might pick up some players from Sandzak, who have vanished, since there has been a bit of movement between those teams in the past. They've always had a few quality players, so judging by the scorelines, I can't imagine that they've had a full team out. Any comments?

Certainly the referees can't be on Kosova's side

These rankings don't mean much in my mind until we've been through the first nine games.... although the 8-0, 9-0 type thrashings certainly say a lot.

Naturally. Last year, it was near mid-October before I released the first rankings. Right now there are lots of 8-12 position swings. Another 3-4 weeks and the stratification of teams will be more indicative of quality and by the 9th week, what you see is what you get.

Make Azzi correct his website and I will repent and do 12 hail marys....His website is the source of the stats...I can only do so much..and by the way I did give you props on your 5 goals in my original match post. I guess the little barb at the end made you miss it!

We appreciate the kind words, Oggy, although as Ballkicker points out, it is early in the season. The good thing about starting on a low ranked team is that there's nowhere to go but up. The name 'C-men' is favored by our over 35 team and because of our affiliation with them we have to keep it. We used 'Lions' in summer league and decided to add it for winter.

Anyways, from early results, and from having played against them, I would say that GN Sporting is the class of our group. Obviously with lopsided wins, Yaletown is the favorite in 2A. Not sure about 2B as I don't think there is a clear favorite. Another few games should distinguish the front runners and we hope to be in the chase in 2C.
