I fancy Germany.

Yes, I said fancy.

Ballack to miss opener for Germany

6/8/2006 9:25:40 AM

BERLIN (Ticker) - Michael Ballack has hit back at suggestions he could have done more to get himself fit for Germany's World Cup opener against Costa Rica on Friday.

Ballack, the Germany captain, sustained a calf injury in last Friday's friendly against Colombia.

He then enjoyed a two-day break with his family in Munich before reporting the problem to team doctors upon his arrival at Germany's base in Berlin.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann was forced to announce on Friday that his captain, who recently signed for Chelsea, would not be available for the tournament opener.
This shouldn't hurt zzzGermans vs. Costa Rica, but he had better be back for the next games.

If he's not back for the second game, I'm not betting another 10,000 in getting past the second round.

I believe the announcer said "two teams committed to attacking". I wish all games could be like this. This is great. Good thing I stayed home to watch it.

What a goal by Frings. Incredible shot.

I'm not sure zzzGermans can be happy with giving up two to Costa Rica, although the second was offside.

Excellent game to start the tourney though.

Event settled. It could have been the thump heard around the world had they bottled it.

Fcuk me. Both Lahm's and Frings goals were absolute magic. Even Gerrard would be proud. (The 2nd wasn't too bad either.)

What a game -- but after I mistakenly checked my PMs, KNVB had me worried. ???? I need to reread it to really understand what you were getting at. ????

Forgot to mention: zzzGermans are looking VERY suspect in the center back area. Any other top team would've eat them alive.
