Canada held on to the No. 8 spot in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings published on Friday. The Canadian team isn’t alone in the eighth position, though, as it sits tied with Brazil, who climbed one spot in the rankings. Canada and Brazil played to a 2-2 draw at the inaugural Tournoi de France tournament earlier this month, with Diana Matheson and Janine Beckie scoring second-half goals to erase the South Americans' two-goal lead. The United States, the two-time reigning World Cup champions, remain No. 1 in the rankings. The Americans are followed by Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, England, Australia, Canada and Brazil, and North Korea. The French moved up one spot to No. 3 after winning the Tournoi de France competition, while the Dutch (who drew Canada 0-0 at the tournament) dropped to fourth. North Korea cracked the top 10, moving up one place in the rankings. Japan slid down to No. 11. Canada was scheduled to host Australia on April 14 in an international friendly at BC Place in Vancouver, but that game was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Canadian coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller was going to use the friendly vs. Australia as preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after the Reds booked their ticket to Japan via the Concacaf qualifying tournament. However, the IOC announced this week that the Tokyo Games have been postponed until 2021.
