Wednesday's massive day in Halifax sport has prompted a message from the city's highest office. HFX Wanderers will be joined by junior hockey's biggest contest on Wednesday as the Nova Scotian capital hosts League1 Ontario side Vaughan Azzurri in the second leg of the Canadian Championship's first round (5:00 p.m. ET, 6:00 p.m. AT/OneSoccer. The match will end just moments before the Halifax Mooseheads close the round robin portion of the 2019 Memorial Cup against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies just across the street at Scotiabank Centre. Halifax mayor Mike Savage penned an open letter to the city's employers ahead of what he dubbed an "ultimate sports day in Halifax." Wanderers players helped Savage spread the letter, which warns employees could be working "at a reduced capacity" following Wednesday's games. Stephen Hart's side will be looking to advance to the second round of the Canadian Championship up 3-2 ahead of the second leg. Wanderers staff originally pushed the kick-off time to 6:00 p.m. local time to "pack both the stadium and the rink." The Mooseheads, meanwhile, sit atop the four-team standings heading into Tuesday's game between the Guelph Storm and Prince Albert Raiders.
