Went to watch Cowichan and Langley , Cowichan took the lead with a neat header midway through first half. and also had most of the play. When Langley did attack they had a blonde haired guy, quite stocky but quite skillful. Thought Langley lost out on the majority of physical challenges.they were definitely the smaller of the teams. Game was then pretty even with both sides having half chances until about the 70th minute, Cowichan played a long through ball, forward chipped round keeper on a one on one, keeper followed through and cleaned him out, ref gave red card and to be honest it deserved it. Langley then seemed to tire and Cowichan scored a second and then missed a few chances that really should of been taken.I have no idea if Langley had a full squad , I know Cowichan were missing there regular central defender.

Habib got the first 3 goals for Chile. He was a beast. Hugo had a great game in net for Chile. he took at least 3 hard knocks from Richmond players, and was in a lot of pain, but still made several fine saves.
Lots of kick and chase in todays game. The Peg Inter game was better soccer, but both games were hotly contested.
A Richmond player got a yellow card in the first half for yapping, then got a second yellow at the 60 minute mark when his team was down 2-1.
FYI the ref when asked why the (second) yellow said "you can't play the ball when the keeper has just parried it..."
Wonder how he worded his report

So of the 4 teams left, who are favourites, who are the outsiders, I have seen 4 games in tournament so far, seen some good players but not what I would call a favourite yet.

My gut feeling is that Inter is the favourite to win it all at this point.

That being said, I haven't seen a game at this level for almost a decade :)

Takin me a few days to get on here as I was gutted and pretty choked with my lads over the weekend. All my respect goes towards the Cowichan team and fans. Great fans, big turnout. Cowichan well played, very cautious and took full advantage of a counter in the first 9 minutes of the match. Big mistake on our d's. With 20 left we were putting on some pressure then our keeper took a red when not needed went 25 yards out and took the player out. They took advantage as we were putting pressure on to tie and scored the final nail in Langley's coffin this year.

Now for the performance of our boys, and Steve will agree, this is the worst performance I have seen from this team in 6 years. They did not come out to play. Had the team that played last week came it would have been more of a game. In saying this I don't want to take anything away from Cowichan they came and battled for 90 minutes. Well done and deserved to move on.

I will miss the guys but know will see a few games here and there. Good luck to the final four. I know where my money is.

PROVINCIAL CUP – ROUND OF 16
RICHMOND FC HIBERNIANS – WEST VAN FC 1-0: On Friday evening, at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, the visiting Richmond Hibernians upset the hostingWest Van FC by a narrow—and hard-fought—1-0 margin. The match was a very intense and physical affair as both teams worked extremely hard in search of the all-important victory. As a result, very few goalscoring opportunities were created during the entire match. Midway through the first half, the Hibernians had their only chance to open the scoring when a free-kick by Alan Chivers was flicked on by Geoff Salt to Lucas Barrett, whose subsequent ‘snap-shot’ was well saved by goalkeeper Steve Welle. At the other end of the pitch, West Van FC also came close to opening the scoring on a couple of occasions, but efforts by Max Baessatoand Colin Phillips went awry. The second half was more or less a repeat of the first as both teams defended tenaciously, thus limiting the goalscoring opportunities to a minimum. Early in the second half, Richmond FC’s Gavin Barrett set up Alan Chivers at the edge of the West Van penalty area with a clever pass. However, Chivers’final shot was deflected by a West Van defender. On the ensuring corner-kick, Geoff Salt’s header sailed over the crossbar. West Van FC replied in kind and also came close to scoring shortly thereafter, but Desmond Tachie’s wicked shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Jason Roberts. At the 78th minute mark, Richmond FC managed to score what proved to be the winning goal of the contest when Peter Chivers sent a picture-perfect cross into the West Van penalty area. Lucas Barrettcontrolled the ball with his chest and quickly volleyed it into the far top corner of the net, giving goalkeeper Steve Welle no chance whatsoever. During the rest of the match, West Van FC threw caution to the wind and attacked relentlessly in search of the equalizer. However, some excellent defending on the part of Alan Chivers, Geoff Salt, Marcus Brougham, and Mike Revell kept the vaunted West Van attackers at bay. The entire Richmond FC team played remarkably well in a winning cause but special mention should be made of the afore-mentioned defensive core as well as midfielders Rory Gattens and Connor Radil. For West Van FC, defendersTim Perry, Drew Gelley, Leo Nash, and Max Baessato also played extremely well, albeit in a losing cause. The victory advances the Richmond FC Hibernians to the quarter-finals of the Provincial Cup, where they will face yet another VMSL team, EDC Burnaby.

LANGLEY FC HURRICANES – WESTCOAST SELECTS 5-1: On Saturday evening, at Pitt Meadows Secondary School, the Langley Hurricanes knocked the Fraser Valley’s Westcoast Selects out of the Provincial Cup competition by defeating the hosting team by an elaborate 5-1 margin. Early in the match, the Westcoast Selects took the lead when a long clearance was skillfully controlled by Dan LePage well outside the Langley penalty area. LePage then proceeded to chip the ball over the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Pratap Sandhu and into the back of the Langley net for the game’s opening goal. The Hurricanes pressed hard in search of the equalizer for the remainder of the first half but were unable to finish off any of their numerous goalscoring chances. However, early in the second half—at about the 52ndminute mark—Langley FC was finally able to equalize when Ryan Dhillon raced down the right flank, beat a couple of Westcoast defenders, and eventually crossed the ball onto the path of Nick Soolsma, whose final one-time rocket found the back of the net. At the 75th minute mark, Langley FC scored what proved to be the winning goal when Ryan Dhillon became the finisher when he took advantage of an excellent cross from Cam Hundal and finished off the play in clinical fashion. Ten minutes later, young substitute Tanveer Minhas scored the insurance marker when his brilliant diving header—off a Ryan Dhillon rebound—gave the Westcoast goalkeeper no chance whatsoever. Late in the match, the Hurricanes scored two more goals, both set up by none other than Nick Soolsma. The first was scored by Cam Hundal when he one-timed Soolsma impeccable cross, while the second was tallied by young veteran Harp Khakh, just before the full-time whistle. The entire Langley FC team played remarkably well, but special mention should be made of former professional Nick Soolsma who contributed enormously to the victory by scoring a great goal and setting up 2 others. Midfielders Ryan Dhillon and Cam Hundal also deserve special mention for their outstanding performances. As a result of the victory, Langley FC will now advance to the quarter-finals of the Provincial Cup playdowns against Cowichan FC.

ICST PEGASUS – SAANICH FUSION 4-2: On Saturday, at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, the hosting ICST Pegasus disposed of the Saanich Fusion—one of the top teams in the Vancouver Island Soccer League—by a 4-2 margin. The Pegasus lads took the early lead—at about the 10th minute mark—when Reynold Stewartcleverly slotted the ball into the back of the Saanich net after the goalkeeper had made two excellent saves on shots by Reynolds and Jag Gill. The hosting VMSL team continued to press but, as luck would have it, the visitors managed to knot the score—at the 20th minute mark—on a lethal counter-attack as Andrew Celenzafinished off the play in clinical fashion. ICST Pegasus responded positively and retook the lead at the 30th minute mark when a shot by Javid Khan was deflected into the back of the net by Jag Gill. Late in the first half, ICST Pegasus added two more goals to its tally, thus putting the game out of the Fusion’s reach. On the first goal,Chetan Jhooty finished off a brilliant individual effort in clinical fashion as he beat several Saanich defenders before slotting the ball home. Then, just before the half-time whistle, Javid Khan’s wicked shot was inadvertently deflected into the net by a Saanich defender. ICST Pegasus controlled most of the action during the second half but was unable to score, mostly due to some poor finishing on the part of its forwards. As luck would have it, it was Saanich that managed to narrow the margin late in the game, when Leo Falson took advantage of a defensive miscue before placing the ball behind goalkeeper Andy Singh. The entire Pegasus team played extremely well, but special mention should be made of forwards Reynold Stewart and Jag Gill who were constant threats during the entire contest. As a result of the victory, ICST Pegasus will now face Inter FC in the quarter-finals of the Provincial Cup.

INTER FC – COQUITLAM METRO-FORD WOLVES 1-0: Also on Saturday, at Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, two of the top teams in the VMSL—the hosting Metro-Ford Wolves and the visiting Inter FC—faced off in what turned out to be a very dull and uneventful match. At the end of 90 minutes of play, the ‘Italians’ walked away with a well-deserved 1-0 victory. The lone goal of the contest was scored early in the match—at about the 15th minute mark—when Inter’s defenderBryan Fong played a great, diagonal ball to Milad Mehrabi. Mehrabi proceeded to control the ball before sending Joseph Marrello flying down the right flank with a perfect pass. Marrello’s subsequent cross was then converted by a diving Liam Miller, whose header gave goalkeeper Mat Bird no chance whatsoever. The remainder of the first half was a rather boring affair as neither team appeared willing to take any unnecessary chances. During the second half, the Metro-Ford Wolves tried hard to get back into the match, but some excellent defending on the part of Inter’s Bryan Fong and Adriano Clemente kept the young Wolves off the scoresheet. Colin Streckmann, Jacob Lensky, and Kam Amini played exceptionally well in the Inter midfield, while goalkeeper Andrew Fink recorded a rather easy clean-sheet. For the Wolves, forward Juan Sanchez, as well as defenders Anthony DiNicolo and Matthew Besuschko, worked extremely hard, albeit in a losing cause. As a result of the victory, Inter FC will now advance to the quarter-finals of the Provincial Cup playdowns where they will face ICST Pegasus.

EDC BURNABY – VIC WEST FC 3-0: The third Saturday match was played at the Pacific Institute Park in Victoria between the VMSL’s EDC Burnaby and the VISL’s Vic West FC. At the end of a rather one-sided match, the Chileans were able to claim the victory by an elaborate 3-0 scoreline. As the score indicates, the game was a one-sided affair as EDC Burnaby controlled most of the action and created numerous goalscoring opportunities. Despite the EDC Burnaby dominance, the first half ended scoreless mostly due to the fact that the visitors were unable to finish their glorious chances. In particular, Habib Mohammed, Brendan Djambazov, Josh Hardy, Rizal Ganief, and Ylya Malek came close to scoring but their shots barely missed the target. The second half was more or less a repeat of the first, except for the fact that EDC Burnaby was able to finish off 3 of their many opportunities. At the 55th minute mark, the VMSL team scored what proved to be the winning goal whenEric Ray received a clever pass from Josh Hardy and proceeded to slot that ball into the bottom corner of the Vic West net from the edge of the penalty area. Then, at the 75th minute mark, second half substitute Tarek Yassin received a brilliant pass from Habib Mohammed inside the penalty area and, without a moment’s hesitation, slammed the ball into the back of the Vic West net for what proved to be the insurance marker. Late in the match, Rizal Ganief scored the final goal after he received an excellent pass from Ducivan DeSouza. Ganief faked his initial shot, thus sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction and then buried the ball into the opposite corner of the net. The entire EDC Burnaby team played remarkably well, but special mention should be made of midfielders Eric Ray and Ducian DeSouza—as well as forwards Habib Mohammed and Rizal Ganief—for their tireless efforts during the entire match. As a result of the victory, EDC Burnaby will now travel to Richmond to take on their VMSL rivals, the Richmond FC Hibernians.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: RICHMOND FC HIBERNIANS for their amazing performance in their 1-0 victory over the highly-favoured West Van FC. Led by the rock-solid performances of defenders Alan Chivers, Geoff Salt, Mike Revell, and Marcus Brougham, the Hibernians managed to pull off an incredible upset over the newly-crowned Premier Division and Imperial Cup champions!

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: EDC Burnaby’s midfielder ERIC RAY for his superb performance in his team’s 3-0 victory over Vic West FC. Ray controlled the middle of the park with poise and skill and set up numerous excellent goalscoring opportunities. For his magnificent performance this past weekend, ERIC RAY will receive a pizza for two, compliments of THE GOLDEN BOOT CAFFE`. The prize is available up to 2015-04-30.

PROVINCIAL CUP – QUARTER-FINALS
INTER FC – ICST PEGASUS 3-2: On Friday evening, at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, Inter FC continued its impressive winning streak by defeating ICST Pegasusby a narrow—and hard-earned—3-2 margin. The ‘Italians’ took the early lead—at about the 10th minute mark—when a perfect cross by Milad Mehrabi was converted in clinical fashion by Jacob Lensky as his close-range header gave goalkeeper Andy Singh no chance whatsoever. Inter FC kept pressing and came very close to scoring its second goal shortly thereafter when Kam Amini worked his way through the midfield, beat a few Pegasus defenders, and unleashed what appeared to be an unstoppable shot towards the top corner of the net. However, the ball struck the crossbar and was subsequently cleared by a Pegasus defender. At this point, the home team started taking control of the match and was able to knot the score midway through the first half. The play originated from a great cross by Omari Aldridge, a cross that found an unmarked Reynold Stewart at the edge of the Inter penalty area. Without a moment’s hesitation, Stewart proceeded to volley the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer. ICST Pegasus continued to apply a lot of pressure on the Inter defense during the remainder of the first half, but some excellent defending on the part of Adriano Clemente and Jordan Michael kept the score at 1-1 till the halftime whistle. The second half started in a very similar fashion to the first as Inter FC exerted a lot of pressure on the Pegasus backline in the early stages. At about the 55th minute mark, Inter FC was compensated to its constant pressure when Milad Mehrabi’s cross found second-half substitute Sebastian Crema inside the 18-yard box. Crema proceeded to one-time the ball with a clever chip shot, over the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Andy Singh. Inter FC continued pressing and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but Milad Mehrabi was unable to finish off passes by Jacob Lensky and Brian Fong as both his shots barely missed the net. As luck would have it, it was ICST Pegasus that was able to tie things up midway through the second half when a long-range free-kick by Chetan Jhooty bounced off the defensive wall. Jhooty himself picked up the rebound and quickly fired a low, hard drive into the corner of the Inter net for the equalizer. The home team kept pressing and came close to taking the lead on a few occasions, but shots by Chetan Jhooty and Reynold Stewart were brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Andrew Fink. Late in the match—at about the 85th minute mark—Inter FC was able to score the winning goal when a well-taken corner kick by young veteran Joseph Marrello was controlled by Adriano Clemente who then chipped the ball back onto the path ofColin Streckmann. Streckmann’s subsequent header found the back of the net for what proved to be the winning goal. The entire Inter FC team played remarkably well, but special mention should be made of midfielders Joseph Marrello and Jacob Lensky who controlled the middle of the park in superb fashion. Also, forwardsMilad Mehrabi and Sebastian Crema played extremely well in a winning cause. For ICST Pegasus, forwards Reynold Stewart and Chetan Jhooty were dangereous during the entire match, despite the heart-breaking loss. Inter FC thus advances to the semi-finals of the Provincial Cup, against the North Delta Lions, the top team in the Fraser Valley Soccer League. The game will be played on Saturday, May 2, at South Memorial Park, starting at 4:00 p.m.

COWICHAN FC – LANGLEY FC HURRICANES 2-0: On Sunday, at Ladysmith Park in Cowichan, the hosting Cowichan FC—of the Vancouver Island Soccer League—upset the visiting Langley Hurricanes by a 2-0 margin. The home team took the early lead—at about the 10th minute mark—when a long ball from Tyler Hughes was headed across the goal area by Dan Cato onto the path of Paddy Nelson. Nelson had no difficulty in finishing off the play with an unstoppable close-range header, for what proved to be the winning goal. The Hurricanes replied positively and came close to equalizing midway through the first half when Nick Soolsma raced in on goal on a breakaway. However, goalkeeper Scott Brown stood tall and pulled off a remarkable—and vital—save to maintain his team’s 1-0 lead till the half-time whistle. Midway through the second half, Cowichan FC scored what proved to be the insurance marker when Craig Gorman finished off a tidy sequence of passes with an excellent shot. The Hurricanes continued pressing in search of their first goal, but some excellent defending on the part of Steve Scott and Kevan Brown kept the vaunted Langley FC attackers at bay. For Cowichan FC, goalkeeper Scott Brown fully deserved the clean-sheet as he made numerous excellent saves during the entire contest. Also, defensive midfielders Steve Scott and Kevan Brown deserve special mention for their outstanding performances, while forwards Paddy Nelson andCraig Gorman were very dangerous throughout the contest. As a result of the hard-earned victory, Cowichan FC will now face another VMSL team—EDC Burnaby—in the Provincial Cup semi-finals.

EDC BURNABY – RICHMOND FC HIBERNIANS 4-1: On Saturday, at Hugh Boyd Park in Richmond, the visiting EDC Burnaby disposed of the Richmond Hiberniansby a clear-cut 4-1 margin. The Hibernians got off to a positive start and almost took the lead very early in the match when Craig McMillan’s shot barely missed the target. As luck would have it, it was EDC Burnaby that took the lead shortly thereafter—at about the 10th minute mark—when Ylya Malek found an unmarked Habib Mohammed with an impeccable through ball. Mohammed then proceeded to blast an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Richmond net thus giving his team the early lead. The Hibs fought back tenaciously and almost tied things up on a couple of occasions, but shots by Matteo Serka and Peter Chivers were well saved by goalkeeper Hugo Vasquez. Finally—midway through the first half—Peter Chivers was able to score the equalizer when he curled a long-range free-kick over the defensive wall and into the top corner of the EDC Burnaby net. The Chileans replied in kind and came close to retaking the lead on a couple of occasions, but efforts byJoe Agiba and Ylya Malek sailed over the crossbar. At the other end of the pitch, the Hibernians also came close to scoring, but a couple of efforts by Matteo Serkamissed the target. Early in the second half, Richmond FC once again came close to taking the lead when Craig McMillan’s wicked volley barely missed the net, with goalkeeper Hugo Vasquez well-beaten. As luck would have it, it was EDC Burnaby that took the lead—midway through the second half—when Habib Mohammedconverted an excellent cross from Ylya Malek with an impeccable header. Needless to say, the tenacious Hibernians bounced back and almost equalized on a couple of occasions, but Tyson Popoff’s volley went wide of the net, while Craig McMillan’s first-timer hit the cross-bar. At this juncture, Richmond FC continued to press in search of the tying goal, while EDC Burnaby relied mainly on defending and counter-attacking. At the 80th minute mark, the Chileans scored the insurance marker on a lethal counter-attack when Ylya Malek sent Habib Mohammed on a breakaway with an excellent through ball. In a cheeky manner, Mohammed flicked the ball over goalkeeper Jason Roberts and then deposited it into the empty net for what could be described as a marvellous goal. Late in the match, EDC Burnaby scored its fourth—and final—goal when Ducivan DeSouza received an excellent pass from Ylya Malek and proceeded to chip it over goalkeeper Jason Roberts and into the net. Needless to say, Habib Mohammed and Ylya Malek turned in outstanding performances for EDC Burnaby. Malek set up all 4 of his team’s goals with excellent passes, while Mohammed registered a hat-trick with 3 amazing goals. Also, defender Gus Ramizez deserves special mention for his rock-solid performance. For the Hibernians, defenders Marcus Brougham and Tyson Popoff—as well as midfielders Peter Chivers and Lucas Barrett—also played remarkably well, despite the loss. EDC Burnaby will now face Cowichan FC in the semi-finals of the Provincial Cup. The match will take place at Burnaby Lake West on Saturday, May 2. Kick-off time is slated for 3:00 p.m.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: INTER FC for its splendid performance in defeating ICST Pegasus by a narrow—but well-earned—3-2 margin in the Provincial Cup quarter-finals. Led by the outstanding play of forward Milad Mehrabi—as well as midfielders Joseph Marrello and Jacob Lensky—Inter FC fully deserved the hard-earned victory.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: EDC Burnaby’s forward HABIB MOHAMMED for his incredible hat-trick performance in his team’s 4-1 victory over the Richmond Hibernians. All 3 of Mohammed’s goals were things of beauty as he displayed a remarkable goal scoring prowess. For his amazing performance this past weekend, HABIB MOHAMMED will receive a pizza for two, compliments of THE GOLDEN BOOT CAFFE`. The prize is available up to 2015-05-31.
