TSN was just running a pre-season special report on milestones to be met this year (500 goals, 1000 assists, and such). No matter how many times you hear it, Gretzky was truely amazing. Just look at all-time points:

Gretzky - 2,857
Howe - 1,850
Messier - 1,781
Dionne - 1,768
Francis - 1,624

Take the best of best of all-time, and then add another 1,000 points. He wasn't just the best -- he destroyed the best. Absolutely astounding.

Wayne was good but he never took the beatings that all the other greats took. He could skate all arround the ice without getting touched. I give hime credit but his goal record and piont record would have been destoryed if Mario didn't have his problem. Mario I think is one of the greatest in the league he has took a beating every season. Never had a bodygaurd like Wayne( Semenko, Marty the stick man etc.... Everywher he went there was someone to take care of the baby. By far Mario I think was a better player.
