Champ Car announced that it is reviewing a physical confrontation between Montreal's Alex Tagliani and Toronto's Paul Tracy during Sunday's running of the Grand Prix of San Jose.
Tagliani confronted Tracy on Pit Lane after an on-track accident on Lap 54 that saw Tracy miss the brake point and slam right into Tagliani. The crash eliminated both drivers from the race. Television cameras caught Tagliani shouting at Tracy on two occasions in Pit Lane, and the drivers ended up throwing punches at one another.
"We understand that this is a very competitive series and our athletes can get caught up in the heat of the moment but we do not condone this type of behavior," said Champ Car President Steve Johnson in a statement.
"We will review this incident thoroughly and determine what needs to be done to make sure things like this do not happen in the future."
Tracy, who won the provisional pole on Friday, started alongside Sebastien Bourdais on the front row, followed by teammate A.J. Allmendinger. Tagliani started in 13th.
