Has soccer’s time come in Canada? - The Globe and Mail

Some good info about how the fab four ownership came to be, philosophy on the running the team like a club, and mls shifting it's philosophy on club developing of players...
“Our philosophy is to develop players for the Whitecaps first, but also to develop players that we can sell,” says Mallett. “We’re in the business of buying and selling players. There’s money in it. You develop one player and it can cover the cost of the academy for multiple years.”

That quote is where I hope to God the Whitecaps intend on "eventually" subsidizing the cost of the HPL that they are involved with.

IMO, it is a MUST if they want full buy-in/support from the soccer community.

And if they don't, I hope to hell that HPL franchises eventually start to market "their" players to other clubs in Canada/NA/Europe with an eye to getting a transfer fee themselves.
