University Legendary Clan Soccer & Golf Coach John Buchanan Passes Away

BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University community is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary men's soccer and golf coach John Buchanan, who passed away peacefully at home with his family on January 19th at the age of 77.

I knew John as a little kid when my one of my coaches played at SFU as he came out to a couple of practices to help and games to watch.

That, and I also attended the SFU soccer schools as a young boy and again, he was always a very down to earth, sincere and humble man.

I thought it was amazing when he became the golf coach at SFU later on in life after serving the Institution as the soccer coach.
I had no idea he was a golfer as well.

Speaking of, the last time I saw him was a couple of years ago on an impromptu re-introduction where he obviously didn't know or remember me, but it was with a couple of drams he generously offered beside his locker at the VGC after a round one day as a guest of one of my partners who knew him well.
Again, just a wonderful lad to be around with some cool stories.

My condolences to his family and many friends.
