...back on topic, this Canucks team has an anemic offense, very little creativity through the Centre of the Ice and a glaring lack of talent when you're having to dress plugs like Dale Weise and Tom Sestito.

Making the playoffs will be a miracle as this roster sits today, especially with the improvements made by Colorado etc.

It was fun reading through the first 6-8 pages of this thread again...above is a post I made in October after Edler got suspended.

Anywho...

Agreed Regs, Change for Change's Sake is never good. Ultimately if I was firing Gillis it would have been on his drafting record, not changing out the scouting team (pro and amateur) and for his flip flopping on if this team is going to be a skill puck possession team or a counter attacking defensive collapse to the net team.

There's nothing Gillis could do about Luc Bourdon (RIP) dying way too young, and projected to be an All Star Defenseman that could have been playing for Canada at the Olympics in Sochi instead of Dan Hamhuis.

Also Agreed Regs, a period of constantly being in the playoffs (Early 90's for about 7 years or so with a Cup Run) and then a bunch of schmucks come in after Quinn leaves and ownership changes and the star studded team plays well below their ability and then a rotation of coaches and journeymen players rotate through till management gets their poop together and brings in Crawford with a Younger set of Players (Remember Matt Cooke, Harold Druken, Peter Schaeffer, and developed cast offs like a 24 year old Todd Bertuzzi and a young buck Brendan Morrison in a trade for Mogilny.) That team made the playoffs in 00/01 and has only missed twice since then (The 06 and 08 playoffs)

This team needs to have the "Core" turned over and a new core develop over time, as they did when Morrison, Bertuzzi, Naslund, Linden, Sami Salo, Willie Mitchell and others left new guys like the Twins, Kesler, Bieksa, and Burrows came in.

This team has an identity crisis. Very skilled players that are mostly one dimensional, they lack depth of scoring, they lack depth at C, they lack consistency on D, have VERY young immature goaltending and not a full cupboard in the CHL and AHL, but a start with the likes of Shinkaruk (Projects to a top 6 scoring winger), Horvat (projects to be a solid 2 way top 6 centre) Gaunce (Projects to be a bottom 6 C that will excel at Special teams) next step guys like Tanev and Corrado need to step up and develop up the ladder one more rung. Stanton needs to have a full year like the beginning of this season.

make some hockey deals with the assets available now with a recoverable shelf life. (Edler, Kesler come to mind) The untradeable contract guys like the Twins and Burrows become your plan to phase out from 1st line to 2nd line over then next two years, you hope Stanton, Corrado, Tanev, Kassian, Jensen keep developing and one or two of Gaunce, Shinkaruk and Horvat can make an early step up and fill roles.

Miss the playoffs a few more times, don't get greedy early and trade 1st and 2nd round picks for rentals at the deadline and you'll be back in the game quickly.

Gillis made two big mistakes that led to this. Number one moving Shnids. Nuber two Trade time he made no trades to help the twins. As you can see Kesler could have gave them two needed players. Every one is jumping on Torts but last knight you did see boys play mean men.
I don't think Linden will be the man. I think Pat Quin is going to help the owners till they can find a GM.
Quin loves to draft kids and does OK. Torts could work with Quin. No more fire just get rid of dog frucking players.
All we need is two D and two good forwards. Rest is here and in Utica. Kids have to be given a chance. Green has five six guys in Utica with size and grit. Why the hell were they not here for last knight game. This team is burned out with out any sole including Torts. Peter Anderson should be here Webber to Utica should be move number one. Edler likes to jump up Anderson is a stay at home D that can skate. Garrison has most points but in my in opinion lacks speed against strong fast forwards.

My 2cents, the time is right for a change. we don't need a massive overhaul, but changes yes.i love listening to the late night after game talk radio guys and callers that act like they are in the dressing room or next to the gm chair making descions. i love these asshats. they have no clue. hopefully the canucks can better themselves and make next year more exciting.

Johnny, T Green has two very good players in UItica. They both should be here for last three games. Corrado should have been here the hole year. This way he needs another year to develop. Alexsandre Gernier is a guy with size and good defensive game. He should have been here before the Sochi games.
As you see Jensen brings in youth and pace Gernier is the same way with more points than Jensen. Team needs fun in the room.
They are all as tight as piano wire. Only Lack and Markstrom laugh.
Torts will fall over if he does not watch bit of porn. He needs a hot tub and a blondy for two days. Hell assistant coaches look like mad dogs. Gillis is off to Florida to play golf and recharge.
He will get a job again. Toronto and Canucks will make some trades. Nonis and Quin like each other.

Johnny we might see Stan Smeal with a Bigger role and another guy would be Steve Tambs here he used to be the GM in Edmonton and did better job than the guy in charge now. I just don't think Trever is the right guy for the job. He has been out of hockey for few years he does not have any schooling about GM job. As far as the guy from Canadian World hockey program . I am not sure if he would work for these owners. Some how I think you will see him in Toronto as things are going the same way as Canucks.
I still think Pat Quin, Stan Smeal, Steve Tambs and a young law man will take care of this team from tomorrow on. In my opinion club has far too many guys in upper management. Two guys plus a coach is all we need. Plus one guy with law degree to do the paper work. Torts must be given free hand to run the team as he knows how. If he fails than do the next step.
Head scoot is not good enough. We need bit more in that area. We draft lots of talented kids but most lack drive to be number one each and every day.
In my opinion game drive and pride is the reason we will see them play golf from next week on. Lots lack that part in their game. We might see three wins in next three games. Torts will be full of viniger to prove the point.

I think Gillis wanted out and this was a way to get packaged out. He clearly didn't have support of ownership when he did the radio interview…and he's a very smart and calculated guy. Had to be intentional.

Good Stuff Regs!
I am probably repeating myself, but I don't see why this is attractive to him. He has (but not limited to)
-Linden Construction
-Club 16 TL Fitness
-His Real Estate Holdings and Restorations Business (also with Linden Construction) through Kits and Shaugnessy
-Ability to Travel when/where he wants to ski, cycle, climb etc.
-A retired number hanging in the rafters, and is beloved by all.

If things stay off the rails do the fans turn on him? His Fitness Clubs? Can you imagine a day of chants of "Fire Linden"

This is insanity. If you wanted a new President they should have grabbed Bob Nicholson and Made Linden his VP and Linden could be the Front Man, image guy, ticket seller and learn ala Yzerman in Detroit.

What a sell job. I think Linden is a stand up guy, and a smart hockey man, but he just jumped onto the Titanic as the thing is going "Glub glub glub".

Torts is doomed...

Two big ass Golden Parachutes written in the span of about a month I'd say. Gillis is coming out as the smartest of the lot!

If I was Torts I would be talking to Toronto or Tempa people for a new job. I just can not see him sitting down and listening to Lindens tail dropping input.
I wish Linden all the best but I do think few guys will be on their way. As far as players more than few will look for new addresses.
As for Gillis he is very heads up guy smart law man. He will find a job soon. Not many GM's can win five league titles, he holds five. I wish him well. As far as play off's team must have dirty guys for a long run. His team was more about D with few guys that can score.
In my opinion his hands were tied by the owners, he was told to hire Torts. He did not like that one,one new it was just matter of time.
The team Trever and his guys are getting is over age with low self drive and very defence weak.
One can only wonder who will Trever bring in as GM, my gut tells me Tambollini might be here. He knows Steve and the most important part Steve would listen to Trevs input and also grew up on pasta. Nasland might get a bigger role from Canucks as a chief Europian scout. Smeal might lead the troups of scouts in North America. Shanahan might join his Unian pell here. As Shanie is a hard nose guy that is not scared to tell the people off or fire a guy or two.
The way I see it it will take some dam good trades to bring this club around as it's lost right now. As far as WHL , kids need two three years to be at NHL level each game.
I hope Trever does turn this club around but in my eyes I see it as a maybe in two years. First job has to be to get rid of all the guys in top management and start fresh to show all that he means buiesness.

I heard Burky likes him. He might end up in Calgary, Canucks will not make the play off's for next three years. Linden has got a bigger caka on his hands than he thinks. Bunch of old guys with bit of skill and no balls. On the other side Burk is making right moves and getting Calgary to come around. It will be interesting to see where this team ends up. In my opinion with our D, team might bottom out before it starts to pick it up. Linden should have stayed away for another two years.
Grandpa Quin is only in North Van maybe he will give Linden some pointers. He will need them. He was soft as a player maybe he will harden up as a president. Good PR man that's about it. He has to get a hard nose GM. Shany would do a good job he knows the politics and he could stand up to hard job ahead of this club.
Summer will be full of surprises. Go big or go broke. Hell club will have to pay thirty million in buy out's of all the guys that will be let go.
Old man Acwa must be pissed off. Season tickets better take off.
Has any body heard anything from Luango. He must be buying a new digs with all the coin he gets from Canucks for taking off.
It looks like money grows on trees in this town. Linden's team better make the play off's or he will go golfing next year.

It clearly looks like Torts will ask for a buy out at the end of a year. Team played bit better but for god sake why are the D jumping in to play each shift. Every third time the D jumps in to the play the other team scores. Who the hell is coaching D?
Webber again on that third goal was pushed out of the way like a child. In my opinion Torts needs a year to recharge, these guys would make a man mad. Fricken Frack. Go Trev go.

If Tortorella asks for a buy out, he is resigning and Linden will tell him to fcuk off and not let the door hit him on the backside with no additional cash in his wallet. Asking for a buy-out is quitting.

If they re-assign him within the organization and hire a new coach he stays on his contract and the Canucks have to give other teams permission to speak with him, including potential compensation.

Of course I'm no lawyer and he might have language in his contracts around firings, re-organizations etc...

It would be a dumb financial move to simply fire him and have to pay him his remaining contracted moneys

Lindens problem is not Torts. His problem is getting players that can score in this league. There is a young man from BC by the name Daniel Carr that can score in tight games.I think he is a senior in one of the Schools in US. This is what he has to work on. Carr is 6 foot 200 lb forward.
Trade for kid like Dillon Simpson a big D also in US. Edmonton has toomany of those guys. As far as Torts and Gillman and the rest it will all fall in place. You might even see Nonis back. Torts can not defend for stupid defenders and can not score for led hands forwards. He need players that can do that.

You are the same guys who claims Lane is a better player than Kassian. Are there any U-18 silver players they should call?
