Ottawa MLS Bid

According to MLSnet.com, a group including Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk will hold a Tuesday press conference to announce a MLS expansion bid and plans to build a world-class soccer stadium in the Nation's Capital.

Thoughts? Seems like another solid ownership group. Probably more of a threat to the Montreal bid that to our own as they are an eastern team.

Melnyk's $100M vision

Is anyone following this development? While I believe Ottawa getting a franchise would be great for Canada (not as great as Whitecaps however )

I find this most alarming/frustrating:
"To fund the $140-million project - $100 million for the stadium and a $40-million franchise fee - Melnyk will be actively seeking financial support from federal and provincial governments, he will be talking to corporations for investment and he is already in preliminary discussions with the city about the land."

With Kerfoot and the Whitecaps bid still trying to go it alone and continually facing problems dealing with the Port Authority, if the federal government supports the Ottawa bid financially...
