I think Penticton had a few Van City boys on their team when they did well too. I agree Ktown should do better and should use as many locals as possable. With the new WhiteCaps Okanagan u-21 or reserve team up there Im thinking that its only a matter of time before Ktown picks it up with more locals on the team. All 3 Okanagan teams have turf fields now too. That with new good indoor training facilities they just opened and the new Soccer spacific highschool that just opened in Summerland, I do think they are well on thier way.
PS that school ,which name i forget at the moment,is just what our national program should be doing like in Florida with the States. Highschool and full soccer training everyday. All year round. Indoor and out. State of the Art.

Recently, soccer legends Bob and Dan Lenarduzzi were in Penticton to help launch the grand opening of the new Adidas Sportsplex.

This new facility provides a place for soccer players from all around the South Okanagan to play their sport year-round.

While in the Okanagan, they also had an opportunity to visit The Glenfir School in Summerland, which is currently preparing for the grand opening of the Glenfir Soccer Academy.

The Glenfir Soccer Academy is led by director and renowned coach Chris Bennett, who played soccer with Bob Lenarduzzi for the Vancouver Whitecaps’ inaugural season in 1974.

“Bob and Dan Lenarduzzi are icons in Canadian soccer, and it was an absolute pleasure and honour to give them a tour of Glenfir School and the new Glenfir Soccer Academy,” says Bennett.

The Glenfir Soccer Academy opens in September 2009, where students will receive elite soccer training five days a week as part of their educational curriculum.

The official grand opening ceremonies and kick-off for the Glenfir Soccer Academy will be held on Saturday, May 9 at 12 noon, as part of Glenfir’s open house.

All are welcome to attend. In addition to food, drinks, door prizes and family fun activities, coach Chris Bennett will also be offering free soccer skills clinics as part of the celebration.

To book a space in a soccer clinic or to RSVP for the open house, call 250-494-0004.

“We are thrilled with the upcoming opening of The Glenfir Soccer Academy,” says Bennett. “Soccer is an important part of life for many families in the Okanagan, and having a soccer training facility like this in our community will help to build some incredibly strong soccer players in this region.”

Glenfir School is an independent school in Summerland offering Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.

A balanced approach ensures that the educational experience goes beyond academic excellence to include the development of life skills, physical well-being, the arts and citizenship.

With maximum class sizes of 18, specialist teachers, and enriched programs, Glenfir students thrive.

For more information on The Glenfir School or The Glenfir Soccer Academy or to schedule a tour of the school, please visit The Glenfir School: Independent Preparatory School for Kelowna, Penticton, and the Okanagan, or call 250-494-0004 or 1-866-494-0005.

The Okanagan will be an area that produces soccer players soon enough and look for their teams to challange ours sooner than later. First at the High School Level and then The Challange ,Pinnacles and Excel to follow.
Plus like in hockey and football,,,alot of good players from here will always want to go live in the Valley for many reasons and use soccer as a means to go and do that,Even if its just for a season and an experiance. How much fun to live on the beach with all the hot Okanagan girls and play footy and have your room and board paid for dureing the Summer months.
Hell,, sign me up cause I did it already and it was the best times of my life.
Small towns treat import players as stars. Find them jobs. Put them on the cover of the local paper. Interview them on local TV and radio. The Challange in Ktown are the Whitecaps in Van...and treated better. Celeberty status. And did I mention the girls...

Both teams in the States dropped as their sponcers have pulled out for this year due to economic reasons.
That was what we were told.
They are not folding, and plan to return next year.

More bad news today as Peace Arch dropped out of the PCSL aswell.
They already had dropped down to the Reserve Div, but due to unmentioned reasons, now have pulled right out of the Mens PCSL. :(

Well, it does look like that for sure but,Not haveing the American teams is a blessing for most as getting across the boarder is a pain in the ass. Taki told me that last year PAU had a few guys denied entry for no reason and the American team always had a guy or 2 who would wait at the boarder for their team to return. I have heard other tales as well from others reguarding the boarder patrol... Still loseing a club like PAU is sad.Not sure why they pulled out . I do know that the PCSL is a big commitment and after a long season and now with the financial problems most are haveing. Who knows.
The PCSL may have lost a few teams but they did pick up a bunch more this year too. If you go to their website you will see all the new teams that have come in. Its just the Old Guard who have left and thats why it looks bad.
Still its the best footy in the Summer and we are looking foward to some big games.

PCSL kicks of today May 2nd at 3pm Burnaby Sports Complex field 4 (new turf)
Athletic Club BC vs FV Action
Not sure on who made the Action this year but we are made up of a combination of both our teams with a couple of new faces. We decided to focus on building from within rather than bringing in a bunch of new guys. We have had troubles in the past from guys who say they want to join the club ,but really just want to run somewhere for the summer.
We hope the PCSL will give our younger guys the experience to help them move up in the FVSL. Do well in their up and comeing B Provincials and time together on the field with our Premier guys to help build our club.
Good luck to all
& have a great season .

ps. I am hopeing to finish mid table this our first year in.

The PCSL is far from dead. I think after a few years of high-rate growth the PCSL is going through an evolution of sorts where it's coming back to a more manageable level.

I'd like to see some US flavour for the men and women, but with the economy the way it is - especially stateside - that seems unlikely.

In the end, established clubs like Victoria United (men), Stars (women), Fraser Valley, Khalsa, Surrey United, Okanagan, Vancouver Whitecaps, Xtreme appear strong and will form a nucleus from which the league will grow again. There are some new members this year who look to be positive additions, such as Chilliwack and ACBC.
