Vancouver Whitecaps v San Jose Earthquakes – The Disappointing Story In Pictures
Big match. Big crowd. Big opportunity. Big disappointment. It’s the Whitecaps way!
Over 22,000 fans headed to BC Place on Sunday afternoon looking to see history made. Instead they saw history repeated as Vancouver Whitecaps once again failed to deliver when it mattered most and failed to secured their first regular season Western Conference title and a first round playoff bye.
It looked like it was all going swimmingly when Yordy Reyna fired the ‘Caps into a first half lead. He only scores match winners right? We could all go home early we thought. That was until Vako popped up to fire home a 77th minute equaliser and the champagne was on hold for another week.

Who sends in a superb cross for Yordy Reyna to first home the opener
The ‘Caps look in command and Fredy Montero has a couple of second half efforts
While Aly Ghazal is tackling well at the back
But Andrew Tarbell in the San Jose goal is keeping the ‘Caps at bay
While Robbo has the look of a man who’s seen how this all ends
And sure enough, Vako fires the Quakes level in the 77th minute
And if it wasn’t for Stefan Marinovic, San Jose could have gone ahead
Brek Shea has a chance to win it late for the ‘Caps
But it’s not to be and there’s disappointment all round
