Vancouver Whitecaps v Seattle Sounders – The Story In Pictures
We used this one for his goal against New York Red Bulls in the Champions League, but it feels worthy of digging it out again – Ready, Fredy, GOAL! x 2.
In an emotional night for the Colombian striker, Fredy Montero left no-one in any doubt if his head was with the Whitecaps now. A brace against his former team showed us he’s no Sounder any more and gave Vancouver Whitecaps a huge 2-1 win over Seattle as they get set to head out on a four game road stretch.
It wasn’t a great performance from the ‘Caps at times, and they were under the cosh and out-possessed for a lot of the match, but a win is a win, and when it comes against a Cascadian rival, it’s all the sweeter.

Clint Dempsey hit the woodwork early with a shot eight minutes in from just inside the ‘Caps half
And as Seattle pressed and controlled the game, Kendall Waston had to come up with a big clearance to thwart Dempsey getting on to a cross
The second half started with more Seattle pressure and David Ousted came up with a big save
And another
Friends kicking lumps out of each other
But the game changed in the 65th minute when Fredy Montero rose to get on the end of a Cristian Techera cross
And make it 1-0 ‘Caps (love Alphonso Davies watching the replay on the scoreboard!)
Then 15 minutes later the ball comes to Montero in the six yard box
In acres of space
And the clinical Colombian isn’t going to miss from there
And he doesn’t – 2-0 ‘Caps
No big deal!
Although it is to his new Vancouver teammates!
Dempsey cracks another off the woodwork as Seattle try and get back into the game
They manage to finally find a way past Ousted in the final minute when Will Bruin pokes away a Nicolas Lodeiro cross
And they nearly grab a dramatic last second equaliser but nothing’s getting past big Kendall on the line
It’s over. Ya dancer!
