Sometimes, though rarely, his judgment coincides with the inclinations of the fans, but not even then does he emerge unscathed. The losers owe their loss to him and the winners triumph in spite of him. Scapegoat for every error, cause of every misfortune, the fans would have to invent him if he did not already exist. The more they hate him, the more they need him.

For over a century the referee dressed in mourning. For whom? For himself. Now he wears bright colors to disguise his distress.

It was a sleepy return for a bunch of top teams in Division 2. Twin Arrows continued their impressive season by knocking off Strikers in 2A. For a team that is much more accustomed to fighting it out at the other end of the table, the win moves Twin Arrows into third and gives them control of their fate for a Provincial Cup spot down the stretch. Strikers saw their lead at the top shrink, but won't exactly be panicking as they still enjoy a comfortable seven point cushion over Metropolitan.

In 2B 13th Legion proved that while they may be all but out of the promotion conversation already this season, they are still capable of hanging with big boys as they dispatched current table toppers Serbia this week. That should have opened the door for Sierra to once again take command of the title race but they were shock losers to Astro, leaving it as you were in the fight for first place. The head to head showdown between Serbia and Sierra is slated for the first week of February meaning that there is a very good chance the fixture will be moved to the end of the season due to Cup play, which could provide some fun drama.

At the other end of the table, in 2A GN North Delta are all but mathematically assured of back to back relegations as they are ten points back with six games to play. This means that they would need to win more than half of their remaining matches to even have a hope of just playing off to avoid the drop, and given that they have only managed a solitary win to this point, a run of form like that seems unlikely. The relegation cross over playoff that awaits the team finishing second bottom is, however, wide open in 2A. The teams seventh through eleventh a separated by a mere five points which should keep things interesting right through the end of the season. 2B is much less settled, though things are starting to look bleak for Hurricanes and Gastown, two teams you likely would not have pegged for the drop in preseason. Who goes directly down and who gets a chance to play off though is still very much up in the air.

As for the Provincial Cup spots the league has seven entries this year (one more than last season) and has altered it's entry formula slightly. The league has traditionally given spots to the two division winners and the two cup finalists and then the next highest finishing teams based on points total, regardless of which pool they were in. This year though, perhaps because they changed how the league pools are created (now by seeded draw), the league is opting for a much more straight forward approach. The cup finalists are still assured places as well as the division winners, however now both runners up will be guaranteed an entry and the two third place teams will playoff for the final spot. Obviously if one of the cup finalists comes from the top teams then the top three from each pool will qualify automatically and, if both finalists are top teams, then the playoff will be between the two fourth placed sides.

2B has a fairly solid top 3 at the moment with Serbia, Sierra and Shaheen all in control of their own fate. If things trickled down to a fourth place playoff, things could get interesting as that spot is up for grabs at the minute. In 2A, after Strikers at the top things are wide open and we could see lots of movement between now and the end of the year for places two, three and, if necessary, four.

One or both should have a first round cup bye... if both do then game on!

Looks like the VMSL ruled on an abandoned game between Shaheen and Hrvat and came down on the side of Shaheen. The game was originally entered as 0-0 so the 3-0 decision gives Shaheen an extra 2 pts in the table and now brings them into the promotion conversation as well. Should be a great finish in 2B.

Meanwhile in 2A perhaps there is a lifeline for GN as they play West Coast who have no fewer than five players missing through suspensions this weekend!!

Pool B is wide open:

Feb.3, 2019 Serbia - Sierra
Feb.9, 2019 Shaheen - Sierra
Feb.17, 2019 Shaheen - Serbia

Unless somebody makes another mistake (as Serbia and Sierra did last weekend) the first place will be decided in those three games between Feb. 3rd and Feb. 17th.
Serbia has to win all remaining six games in order to secure top spot (54 points).
Sierra could tie Serbia and still be first if wins other 7 games (53 points).
Shaheen would have to win all remaining six games (50 points) and get help (Serbia and Sierra to lose some points along the way) in order to be first and earn promotion.
Anyway, all three clubs proved they can lose points when no one expects so anything is possible.

In Pool A it seems that 7 points cushion for Strikers should be enough to protect their top spot:

If Shaheen win all remaining then that's 3 points lost each to Serbia and Sierra. Then if Serbia and Sierra tie, I believe that would leave:

Shaheen 50
Sierra 50
Serbia 49

any update on the cup draw?
Yeah I remember we use to come to TTP to get the live game results and news before they appeared on the league site. What has happened here? All I see on this site now is Soccer Coach talking gibberish on every div and thread and posting 1000 videos per post and annoying the hell out of people. What happened to the great days of TTP? Make TTP great again

Really does feel as though the league has missed an opportunity here.

The FVSL and VISL did their draws live online (same as BC Soccer for the Provincials); but the VMSL, after pushing the draw back a day, now almost 24 hrs later has yet to release the results.

There is clear interest given the chatter on here alone. Seems like another example of the league missing a chance to market itself by making a bit of a spectacle of the draws.

Working my sources, hoping someone can get the draws out ASAP!

I was hoping to do an article on the draws last night. Spoke to a couple of coaches and players and no-one knew the draw. Not ideal.
