I would think most would land in div. 1, or 2, and wait for that blessed day they turn 35 and can escape open.

Maybe some of the parents were cutting the cheques though for the paid players and felt they should have a say.

:D
Most parents that come are involved in their kids team are only there to ensure their kid plays, anyone believing otherwise is really kidding themselves......

If Campo fold, where will all the players go?

All other teams are up against the cap and these players are too poor (according to you know who) to commute out to the valley...
The players should go to their division 3 team and help them get promoted if still possible...

If Campo fold or at least sit out season, I take it Soolsma's record haul is wiped from the record books and the Golden Boot chase. That right, or would they let his goals stand?

Past precedent is if a team plays a full round of matches (which Campo have) then those results stand.
The only stricken result would be Metro Ford's forfeit victory this weekend.

Even forfeiting the rest of the games the goals against will still be triple digits.....
I feel that teams should be allowed to fold after 4/5 games in but being halfway into the year might aswell finish the year....

Rematches start this week as play resets for the first round of reverse fixtures. Opening day had some very one-sided score lines, so we will find out if anything has changed between these sides over the better part of three months. Only five matches to predict as Coquitlam Metro Ford have already done the first double of the year, thanks to Campo's forfeit. Not sure we'll see the Burnaby side and their striped socks ever again (if they fold officially, or via forfeiting three matches, their would-be Division 1 spot will be deemed vacated and filled by additional promotions) but we will have to wait a few weeks to see how all that unfolds. In the mean time...

Completely Baseless Predictions - Week 12

Croatia v NorVan
Despite the fact that the first meeting between these sides ultimately finished 4-1 in favour of Croatia, anybody who watched the game would have seen that NorVan gave a fairly decent account of themselves for a newly promoted side. The game was 1-0 and full of hard tackling, a real nip and tuck affair, until the hour mark when Croatia blew things open thanks to three goals in the space of 10 minutes. NorVan would pull a consolation marker back before the final whistle and the North Shore side were full value for it. The new boys kicked on from there and but together a pretty decent first half of the campaign. However, the harsh reality of the top flight has been demonstrated to them over the past two weeks. A one goal loss to defending champions Rovers followed by a solid 1-1 draw last week with title challengers, and derby rivals, West Van has seen them plummet from being in a tie for fourth place to sitting outside the Provincial Cup places in eighth. Such is life in the top flight. The good news for NorVan is they are still just four points out of first place, so a couple of solid result and who knows where they will sit. Croatia are coming in on the back of what was arguably a must win match for their title hopes as they beat leaders Rino's 2-1 which, given the implications, was likely their best performance of the season, coming back form 1-0 down in the second half. After a dip in form the Europeans will need to get back to the form that saw them hold a share of first place for most of the opening weeks of the season. I would expect another tight match in this one, similar to the opening hour of their meeting on Opening Day. NorVan have demonstrated that they can hang with the big boys this season, but they have yet to beat them, mostly settling for draws. As they have now seen, that is just not going to cut it at this level if they want to be playing come April. Croatia has the momentum and, arguably, the edge in quality; look for another win for them in this one.

Pegasus v Rino's Tigers
In what was perhaps the most eye-catching result from opening day, Rino's absolutely throttled last season's runners up, Pegasus, buy a 5-1 margin. Unbeknownst to anybody on the day, it was to be a real statement of intent for both sides. Pegasus have gone on to struggle mightily this year, and currently sit on just eight points, only one above Richmond who occupy the second relegation place and they are competing with the boys from below sea level, along with Guildford, for the right to stay in the league. It is a stunning fall from grace for a team that just last year was competing with local rivals Rovers for the league title and a shot at the Provincial Cup. Discipline has been a large factor for Pegasus, though perhaps it is a byproduct of the frustration that has no doubt set in out at Newton. Javid Khan is the latest to face a ban, this one is two games for violent conduct in their latest setback, a 4-1 humbling at the hands of their other local rivals CCB. Javid now joins arguably the other two major cornerstones of the Pegasus foundation over recent seasons in being suspended at some point this year. Chetan "CJ" Jhooty was banned for six matches earlier this season for abuse of an official while talisman and former Whitecap Sahil Sandhu wracked up enough yellow cards to earn himself a one match suspension a quarter of the way through the campaign. It all points to a growing disharmony within the Surrey side's camp. Whether they can get it sorted out in time to avert a major relegation crisis remains to be seen. Rino's also kicked on from that Opening Day smashing and, after a weird blip in a 2-1 loss to relegation threatened Richmond, went on an absolute tear, ripping off six straight wins and outscoring opponents during that stretch 26-4. It was certainly impressive, and the Tigers looked like they would be almost sure bets to run away with the title, however, they are now winless in their last three matches. Last weekend they lost 2-1 to Croatia, but, fortunately for Rino's, none of their nearest rivals were able to overtake them, so instead their loss just served to massively compress the top of the table. Four points is now all that separates first place from being outside the Provincial Cup places entirely in eighth. It is all to play for in the second half and Rino's could really use the chance to reset the engines and get back to the form that saw them have such success at the start of the year. Peg will be out for revenge, but it is difficult to see how they pull it off given their current form and the fact that one of their top offensive catalysts will be watching from the stands. This could be the perfect tonic for Tigers ailing offense.

Richmond Hibernian v CCB LFC
It was a dream start for CCB and their (allegedly) high priced band of mercenaries that they spent the summer assembling. They were a different class and steamrolled a Richmond side that limped to the finish line last season and would have immediately had alarm bells ringing after a 6-1 hammering to begin the season. It was not all to be sunshine and rainbows for the Surrey side as, after coming into the season expecting to at most be inconvenienced on their march to a title, within weeks they found themselves on the wrong side of results. A 1-1-3 stretch, with the lone win coming against woeful Campo, saw CCB sink in the table and suddenly a return to the Provincial Cup was beginning to look like a dodgy proposition, never mind competing for a league title. The issues for the Surrey boys was once again their old foe, conceding too many goals. CCB has always been able to attract top level offensive talent, though this season might rank as exceptional, it is keeping the ball out of their net long enough for their flair players to make an impact that has been their Achilles heel. A recent commitment to the defensive side of the ball has breathed new life into CCB's season, along with the full time return of offensive juggernaut Victor Blasco who's college season in Nanaimo wrapped up. They are unbeaten in their last four, having only conceded two goals, while Blasco has banged in three of his own. Their uptick in form has coincided with the teams at the top struggling, meaning that it is essentially a chance for a do-over for the Surrey boys who find themselves just two points out of first place heading into the back half of the campaign. Richmond looked to perhaps buck the trend they set with that opening day loss when the shocked the league a week later, beating Rino's Tigers 2-1. It was to be a false dawn however, and the boys from below sea level have spent the majority of the season underwater. They currently occupy the second relegation place and are, for all intents and purposes, locked into a three way race with Guildford and Peg to see who joins Campo (or their vacancy) in Division 1 next season. The reality is that it is most likely to come down to the matches between those sides to determine who ultimately goes down, but any points that the teams can pick up elsewhere would be absolutely crucial. It could also prove devastating to any of the top eight and their hopes as they pertain to the title or making the Provincials. Tough to see how Richmond come out of this one with a win, they will likely to well to keep it closer than it was in Week 1.

West Van v Rover Tigers
This was the MOTW for Week 1 and it is once again three months later. On Opening Day it fully lived up to its billing, with Rovers coming from 2-0 and 3-2 down to win 4-3 on a heartbreaking West Van own goal. It still stands up as possibly that match of the season so far and we will be hoping to see something similar again this time around out at Ambleside. The former Trollers quickly put that loss in the rear-view mirror and got to work on an assault up the standings. They have been flirting with top spot for the last several weeks and finally helped themselves to a share of it with their 1-1 draw against local rivals NorVan last weekend. A win would have given them the outright lead as Rino's continue to struggle, instead it was a third straight 1-1 tie. Rovers spent the early weeks of the season rotating guys and trying to peak for their shot at a National title. The strategy proved to pay dividend when they did indeed capture BC's first National title in over a decade. Their return to VMSL action saw them experience a slight hangover, but they have now won three straight including a 1-0 of heirs apparent Rino's as well as last week's absurd 17-1 embarrassment of last placed Campo. Nick Soolsma had 14 goals in that game which has likely locked up this seasons Golden Boot for the former TFC man. More importantly, the recent stagnating of the teams atop the table means Rovers have crept within three points of first place and still hold two games in hand over the field. Suddenly a repeat as VMSL champions is looking like a very real possibility. A second win of the year over West Van would pull them level on points with the North Shore boys, again while still holding games in hand. Despite being unbeaten, West Van could just as well have a win and two losses over their last three and find themselves in exactly the same place, thus they desperately need to bump this slump if they are to mount a serious title charge over the second half of the season. Let's hope this match provides the same sort of entertainment value as their first meeting and, given how this fixture sets up, all the ingredients are there for it to be another absolute cracker. Tough to pick a winner though and, given West Van's latest form, I think it sets up well for these teams to split the points.

Guildford v Club Inter EDC
On Opening Day Guildford were rudely welcomed to the VMSL's top flight by Inter via a 5-0 thumping. It was also a debut of sorts for the newly merged Club Inter/Estrella de Chile franchise and they took the opportunity to let the league know that it would be the same old Inter that we knew and likely either loved or hated; featuring a new logo and some new faces of course. Mohammed Habib had a hat trick in his VMSL return that day and has since basically been Inter's team. The new entity stormed out to a 3-0-0 start before Habib picked up an injury. Without his goal scoring presence, Inter's form slumped, seeing them go winless over a five game stretch. Habib's return to the score sheet snapped that run as he helped lift the Italian/Chileans to massive a 3-2 comeback win over Croatia. However, as if to prove his value to Inter, while he sat out suspended against struggling Pegasus the next week, "Chinter" could only manage a draw. He was back in the side and back among the goals last week with a brace in Inter's 5-1 win over Richmond. The stats tell an incredible story as Inter are a remarkable 5-0-0 when Habib scores and 0-4-2 without him factoring on the score sheet. Guildford opened their tenure in the VMSL Premier Division with six straight losses. However, to their credit, the Surrey side were seemingly able to put those results behind them and focus on winning the games that mattered. They won three straight against their fellow relegation threatened teams (Peg, Richmond and Campo) and this has lifted them ninth place, three points above the drop zone. The momentum seems to have carried forward somewhat though at they lost narrowly,1-0, last week to a reinvigorated Coquitlam Metro Ford side via a late Carlo Basso goal. I would look for Guildford to have a better second half of the season now that they have their feet under them and they could well surprise a team at some point. This week though, given those stats about Habib and Inter, I have to think that "The Evil Empire" will complete the double over the new boys.

Derver never played for Campo Atletico. He came to a training to say Hi once pre season to say hi to some of the members he used to play with on Campobasso. (a club ran by a diffrent manager). Get your facts straight bud. I was at that practice. He scored a bicycle kick from outside the 18 during that practice which was cool. nobody was recruting him he came to get a jog in and say hi.
Also Ivan was never paid by Campo.
Go ahead and talk shite take the piss but man your credibility on knowing what goes on around here is pretty sad. starting rumors to be accepted by the cool kids.

I see we got campo fan girl over here.

Explain to me how does Derver or Ivan play for a bottom feeder team? It was only for one reason and the reason was money.

I dont care if teams pay players, if they want to pay them so be it. I have a problem with a hypocritical coaches and managers that say they dont.

Good investment? What's the prize money for promotion? Simple math.

I haven't got a clue where any of the money comes from in Prem. (probably vietnamese gamblers haha...for all of the "it's always sunny in Philadelfia fans here)
What's the prize money for promotion?...zero. Is there money in Prem?...you've got your head in the sand if you think there isn't.

Anyways, I was talking more about level and quality of play from div.2 to Prem. If they paid a couple of guys to take the rest of the team to the top of amateur soccer in BC then yes, it's a good investment imo. That would mean 90% of the team was good enough to play at a higher level but were just missing that piece to the puzzle.

Of the so called paid players discussed so far:
Orgill played a season with Campobasso... he was not part of the promotion team to div1.
Ivan was part of the push to prem. Who else in their line up was paid?

Also keep in mind that it was a relatively weak div1 that season. Both promotion teams from div2 finished second(campo) and third(Rinos).

Got to give him some credit seems to be the only campo player saying anything or sticking up for the team....
Its very different from all the trash talk in the past when they were moving up and everyone was talking.......

Derver never played for Campo. He played for campobasso. I have no knowledge on the coaches and managers at the time. Cant provide any help there, although they seemed like Goofs.
just so we are clear, Campo Atletico was a club that had a new coach. new manager. new players (handful returning from campobasso) and a new culture. it was a complete rebuild from the ground up. the colours the logo the stripes the quetzal bird on the logo, it all had significance. It was all calculated. Trying to smear Campo's image by mentioning Derver is a pretty weak and pathetic attempt. if u wanna go back in time 6 years and look at Campobassos financial records be my guest have at it.
I know its alarming... someone mentioning facts and all. Its okay.
Ivan Colin joined the team after Campo had pulled off the trifecta in division 2. both cups won and a promotion in their first season. granted, they were promoted to divison 1 due to an extra spot opening up with a team leaving to the FVSL, they still beat norvan in the standings to had the right to move up.
Ivan scored 2 Goals that following division 1 season...you guys really think Campo paid a player to come in and score 2 goals for them?? Its Laughable. you think they paid and brought in a striker to score 2 goals... LOL. why not mention the 5 other players who had more goals than Ivan? Campo had a player with 13 goals that season and almost won the golden boot. why wouldnt you make the argument he was paid? or the previously premier divison center back who is now in division 2 who made the defense impenetrable that year? why not acuse Campo of paying him? Damn Im already doing a better job of slandering Campo in 3 seconds then you gas bags have been able to over 3 seasons of watching them go from bottom to the top of the league. Ivan was like the 5th or 6th best player on that team. Its ridiculous.
Ivan is of mexican descent. he wanted to play with a team that had some spanish flair, i guess you would say. look at the last names of the top goal scorers on Campo the season he joined: sanchez, guedes, davis flores, castro. He loved the team and the players. the play style. The culture. thats why he joined. thats why he stuck around another season.
One of the reasons he left after Campo's first premier season was because the coach sucked. they lost alot. its why alot of players left. he was a shite coach. its not easy going from division 2 to 1, changing coaches the summer leading into prem and then still managing staying up. its really quite unbelievable given this new coach they had brought in.
Campo paying Ivan dismissed
Campo paying Derver dismissed
Gas bagers really pathetic attemps at slandering campo has been proven irrelevant.
i dont want to ruin the fun tho....so...
i wonder what the second reason is for Ivan's decision to leave Campo and join his new team is? the team most associated with having players confess to having been compensated financially...

Its funny that you say the new coach wasn't good, when he was apparently quite a successful university coach or an academy coach or something....
Rumour was that this new coach started bringing in some of his own players which of course some Campo Atletico players didn't like.... and which supports the theory of @Soccer Coach where he stated that once certain players where told they would not play much or start all of a sudden there was a problem.....
This is just from reading the blog now I can only imagine the details of actual facts or knowing someone who could share some details...
The common denominator here it seems is that once it wasn't going certain individuals ways it was time to protest and cause a shake up.....

Westvan 3-2 winners over Rovers from the excellent site.
The 17 goals last week didn't bother me that much.
The 14 goals by Soolsma is something of douchebag legendary status tho.
