WFC2 v Phoenix Rising – The Story In Pictures
It’s been a season to forget for WFC2. Sunday’s 4-0 home defeat to Phoenix Rising was their worst loss of the year and it was very much men against boys from the first kick off.
WFC2 fielded five teenagers in their starting line-up against a very experienced and in-form Phoenix side. They were two goals down within the first six minutes, and although they created chances, once again no-one could take them and it played out to be a very long afternoon at the office.
At least the season is nearly over. With three games remaining, the players and the club can regroup and plan for the future. It’s a future that’s going to look very different from how things are just now, which with the way this year has gone, can only be a positive.

Your Whitecaps starting XI
It didn’t take long for Phoenix to get on the board, with Jason Johnson rising to get on the end of an Alessandro Riggi cross
Looping his header past Sean Melvin from about 12 yards out four minutes in
It already felt like a long afternoon felt in store for the young ‘Caps
And it soon got worse as Phoenix broke quickly two minutes later
And this time it was Alessandro Riggi himself who fired home to make it 2-0
Yup, a long afternoon indeed
The ‘Caps held out until the second half when Chris Cortez put away another Alessandro Riggi cross in the 50th minute
Leaving the ‘Caps defence wondering what happened
And the Rising jubilant
827 was the official attendance but the stands looked pretty bare as they watched the ‘Caps be outmatched
Marco Bustos exudes everyone’s pain
And that pain was added to 14 minutes from time when Gladson Awako added a fourth
Giving Pheonix the 4-0 victory and extending their unbeaten run to 10 matches
