This isn't probably in the right thread but..............

Quote from league.....

"NOTE TO TEAMS: If the city makes the decision to leave a field open--or to allow user discretion--it is up to the referee to decide whether the field is playable or not.

A field in marginal condition may be available for use on the weekend, depending on the weather and state of the field at the time of inspection. In this case, Parks staff will leave the field OPEN TO USER DISCRETION. In general, if weather and surface conditions improve by the weekend, the field may be suitable for use. However, if the weather deteriorates, or field conditions remain poor (standing water, muddy or mushy playing surface), user groups are expected to show good judgement by not using the field. If poor judgement is exercised by user groups, and field damage occurs, groups may incur fines and this user discretion policy may be changed.

So the league says that it is up to the referee to decide if the field is playable but will fine the teams ( I am assuming that is who they would fine ) if the referee makes a bad decision............. talk about covering your own ASSES:confused:

obviously you have not been involved very long with the league. They almost never have the schedules out until approx a week before the first game. In the past we have been given our first game and then the schedule for the rest would follow.

I talked to Ruben on the weekend, and he had not even received the field assignments from the Vancouver Parks Board yet. Apparently the VPB has a new scheduler this year and he's a little bit behind...

Things could be further compounded if the rumoured Firemen/Slurrey merger in the Premier Division comes to fruition... could see some teams promoted perhaps...

In the valley it is the home teams responsibility to check the field, if the other team and ref show up and the field is unplayable the home team gets fined. This goes for the ref's fees, and it also stop's abuse of fields.

So what happens if a team checks the field the night before, it is fine, but then overnight it becomes unplayable? Is the home team still fined?

Yes

(k) It is the responsibility of the home team to inspect their field on game day. The home team shall be liable for traveling costs for the visiting team and game official’s fee should the game be postponed by the referee due to unplayable field conditions. Amount of fine to be determined by the Executive.

Well that is fcuked, IMHO of course.

Teams that travel to a game that then gets cancelled can suck it the fcuk up and put their purses away (after they pay for their pints of course).

Yes, it sucks to travel but fcuk me, how much does it actually happen?

So schedule is out - I guess we'll start to get into some interesting match-ups after a couple of weeks. RIght now rivalries still have to be established and the better teams need to distinguish themselves from the lesser teams. But in 2A, Yaletown vs KLM could be a decent game. 2B sees Bosna vs NK, which should bring a few cards and 2C has Squamish vs Shaheen which will be a good matchup based on last year's standings.

My issues with scheduling is why doesn't the league front end all of Squamish's home games? Last year the snow/ sleet/ rain cancelled about 3 straight months of their games, so you would think the league would try to jam most of their home games in Sept & Oct ... maybe leaving 1 or 2 for end of Feb or March.
