Lot's of speculation starting on this.

Best one I've heard would be using technology to create a hologram/CGI of Terry Fox who would pass the final torch to his mother who would then light the Caldron.

Gretzky seems to be getting a lot of talk as well.

Someone on the Team 1040 called in and said Don Cherry :)

Who would be the best choice?

Betty Fox.

She deffinitely seems to be the sentimental choice, and really, who can argue?

If they could swing the hologram thing it would send chills down every Canadian's spine. The Gretzky thing sounds reasonable as the most recognizable Canadian world wide, eh.

She already carried the torch, no? I forgot about that.

And his Dad is scheduled to carry it early Friday (along with the terminator and Walter Gretzky)

Impact-wise, which is what the Olympics is all about, gotta be Wayne Gretzky. Everyone would go nuts, and recognize him.

I'm torn on Betty Fox. They can't pull the hologram thing off for the live viewer's (so I've been told) so it would only be TV viewer's who would get what's going on.

I really hope is has something to with Terry Fox...that hologram thing and passing the torch to his mother would have been awesome....

But it doesn't sound like it is going to happen.

The great thing about it would have been it would have exposed Terry and all that he tried to achieve and the work being done to this day in his name to people all over the world.

Even though there is a Terry Fox Run all around the world...lots of people still don't know who he is, including many Americans....

Terry Fox in a hologram would be phenomenal.
I don't think it'll happen though.
But it would be unbelievable and a great moment for Canada.

The fact that Gretzky hasn't done it yet makes me think he's the guy.
Walter Gretzky did it in Ontario though, yes?
Regardless - Gretzky.
I agree, the most recognized Canadian worldwide probably.
Certainly from a winter sports perspective.

Honorable mention:
Trevor Linden
Steve Nash

How can Linden not carry the torch at some point. He hasn't I don't think. Has he? If he hasn't, I think he is the guy.

If it was at all possible Terry Fox completely empdomizes what it means to be Canadian. The selflessness, the toughness. When I heard the rumor on team 1040 I was totally moved. Gretzky and Linden are sporting greats, but The Olympics are supposed to be more than just a sporting event.

I don't think anyone needs reminding that Fox began his run in the Maritimes hoping to end up in Vancouver, but was forced to abandon his run in Thunder Bay. Imagine the emotion if he could complete the run by brining the flame "home". Ha I made my wife cry :)

Nobody gives a damn about T. Linden outside of BC. Wayne Gretzky seems like a logical choice.
