The one that came from Hangarin land and will go back soon.He was the only one with skill and ability to build the game in tight spaces. I am glad you posted, we need more dick heads for soccer to improve here. You can ask the parks board for video tape you will see what i am talking about. Your nuber 8 was also a fine player.ICSF keeper was the best player on the pitch. Midfielder was afull. Only Tempa showed flashes but his coach only caders to his sun. Tempa never got to shoot the PK that Tempa got. All jokes a side, brother can play higher levels if he is Canadian. Go Canada Go Maple leaf rocks.

WEEK #9—2008-11-04

A few big upsets occurred this past weekend as the Premier Division schedule neared the halfway mark. The most noticeable upset was the 6-0 drubbing suffered by the defending VMSL champions, Sporting Club of Vancouver, at the hands of the young and inexperienced Delta WFC. Then, on Sunday afternoon—at Hastings Bowl—the nearly desperate RCIU Legends prevailed over the heavily-favoured Croatia SC by a 3-2 margin. Also, on Sunday evening at Ambleside Park, the aspiring West Van FC dropped all 3 points to the visiting ICSF Inter as a result of a 1-0 loss. As well, a mini-upset took place at Vancouver Technical School on Friday evening when the Serbian White Eagles edged the visiting Surrey United Firefighters by a narrow 3-2 margin. All in all, a very interesting weekend indeed!!!

Westside FC and Columbus-Clan FC avoided the Halloween chaos by playing their scheduled Friday evening game on Wednesday at Point Grey School in Vancouver. In front of a sparse crowd, the two teams settled for a 0-0 draw after a very interesting and somewhat exciting 90 minutes of play. Led by the inspired play of midfielders John Stonehocker, Keith Moore, and James Brown, the Westsiders carried most of the play in the first half but some excellent goalkeeping on the part of Aaron Young kept the home team off the score sheet. In particular, a long-range shot by Kieran O’Callaghan and a couple of fine headers by Nick Graham and O’Callaghan were saved brilliantly by Young. The second half, however, told a totally different story as the visitors came storming back and dominated most of the action. However, some excellent defending on the part of Kieran O’Callaghan denied the Columbus attackers—in particular Tiernan King—too many clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. As well, goalkeeper Rowan Anders came up with a couple of excellent saves—on a long-range shot by Tino Cucca and a great header by youth pick-up Vito Iacobellis—to deny Columbus the late go-ahead goal. In the end, the scoreless draw seemed to be a fair result as both teams took turns attacking in their futile effort to gain all 3 points. The single point leaves Columbus in a 4th place tie with arch-rivals ICSF Inter, while Westside FC remains in the middle of the table with a 3-2-4 record.

On Friday evening, at Byrne Creek School in Burnaby, the defending VMSL champions—Sporting Club of Vancouver—sank deeper in the relegation zone by losing 6-0 to the young and skillful Delta WFC. Led by newly-reinstated defender Luca Bellisomo—as well as forwards Gagan Dosanjh and Marcus Johnston—the Whitecaps’ prospects dominated every aspect of the game and fully deserved the emphatic margin of victory. Delta opened the scoring early in the match as defender Antonio Rago set up Gagan Dosanjh with a nifty pass. After holding off a Sporting defender, Dosanjh calmly deposited the ball into the back of the net for what proved to be the winning goal. Shortly thereafter, Delta added to its lead when Alex Semenets finished off a 4-way passing play—also involving Navid Maschinchi, Gagan Dosanjh, and Sahil Sandhu. Midway through the first half, the prospects scored their third goal of the contest as Antonio Rago’s long ball was flicked on by Drew Russell onto the path of Marcus Johnston who made no mistake in slotting the ball into the net. Just before the halftime whistle, Coulton Jackson took advantage of a defensive Sporting Club blunder to score Delta’s fourth goal. In the second half, Delta added insult to injury by scoring two more goals: one on a brilliantly-taken free kick by Alex Semenets and the other on a fine individual effort by Marcus Johnstone. All in all, a very embarrassing performance by Sporting Club but an amazingly fine effort by the young prospects! The loss leaves Sporting Club all alone in last place in the Premier Division standings, while Delta WFC is now in the middle of the table with a respectable 4-1-4 record.

Also on Friday evening, at Vancouver Technical School, two struggling teams—the Serbian White Eagles and the Surrey United Firefighters—provided the numerous spectators with a lot of nail-biting and entertaining action. At the end of 90 exciting minutes, the Serbians walked away with a hard-earned 3-2 victory, a victory that lifts them—at least temporarily—out of the dreaded relegation zone. The White Eagles took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Alex Kosanin and Dennis Lazarovic—both on impeccable crosses by Dejan Purisic. At this point, however, the home team inexplicably sat back and allowed the Firemen to get back into the match. As a result, the visitors were able to tie things up before the end of the first half as Peter Bergholtz scored twice in rapid succession—once on a fine through pass by playing-coach Niall Thompson, and then on a great header on a precise cross by Aaron Keay. In the second half, Surrey United continued to press for the go-ahead marker and came very close to achieving its goal on a few occasions. As luck would have it, however, it was the White Eagles that walked away with all 3 points as Dejan Purisic once again played the part of the provider as he set up Sasha Plasic with an exquisite through ball. Plasic proceeded to slot the ball into the back of the net from a difficult angle and thus earn his team the badly-needed victory. It should be mentioned that Phillip Kotter and Miso Rakita turned in excellent performances on the Serbian backline, while midfielder Dejan Purisic was once again a going concern throughout the match. The loss leaves the Firemen mired in the relegation zone, in penultimate place with a 1-3-5 record, while the White Eagles climb into 9th place in the standings.

On Saturday afternoon, at Confederation Park in North Vancouver, the Metro-Ford Wolves remained at the top of the Premier Division table by defeating the Norvan Eagles by a narrow, but well-earned, 1-0 margin. After a rather lifeless first half, the Wolves began to take charge of the match in the second half and created a few good goalscoring chances. However, some poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping on the part of Norvan’s Drew Smiley kept the game scoreless until the 75th minute mark. At this point, Omari Aldridge—who had been a constant threat during the entire game—was fouled near the goal line and at the edge of the penalty area. Brian Van Schagen proceeded to curl a wicked free kick into the box that was inadvertently guided into his own net by veteran defender Mike Sheu. Defensively, Metro-Ford’s Kingsley Jones was a tower of strength throughout the contest, while goalkeeper Mat Bird had to be sharp on a couple of occasions to preserve his 5th clean sheet of the season. As a result of the victory, the Wolves remain solidly in first place in the VMSL’s Premier Division, while the Eagles slip to 10th place with a 2-2-5 record.

On Sunday afternoon, at Hastings Bowl in Vancouver, the RCIU Legends pulled off a huge upset by defeating Croatia SC by a narrow 3-2 margin. The Croatians took the lead twice in the first half, but the visiting Legends bounced back and eventually took home all 3 points. Early in the match, Croatia SC came close to taking the lead when former professional Johnny Sulentic set up Daniel Rogic with a perfect pass. Unfortunately for the Croatians, Rogic’s shot missed the wide open net. However, shortly thereafter, Sulentic received yet another perfect pass—this one from the foot of Johnny Pashalidis—and converted it into the go-ahead goal with a brilliant shot from the edge of the penalty area. The Legends, however, bounced right back and knotted the score a few minutes later when Justin Student beat goalkeeper Didar Sandhu to the ball and flicked it to Chris Jarvie who made no mistake in slotting it home from close range. Not to be outdone, the Croatians also bounced back and—after Johnny Sulentic blasted a hard shot over the crossbar—once again took the lead when Maarten Koorn scored on a pin-point cross by Petar Sulentic. In the second half, the Richmond lads came out of the starting blocks with a lot of vigour and determination, while the Croatians seemed content with the scoreline as they sat back and allowed the visitors to control the pace of the match. At about the 60th minute mark, the Legends tied the score as Justin Student half-volleyed a well-taken free kick by Spencer Coppin into the back of the net. Then, with about 10 minutes left in the match, Richmond managed to score the winner when Terry Bell sent an excellent cross from the left flank onto the path of a streaking Spencer Coppin who promptly blasted a first-time volley into the top corner of the net. Midfielders Spencer Coppin and Justin Student turned in brilliant performances in leading their team to victory, while defenders Graeme Poole and Tim Sowerby held off the vaunted Croatian strikers admirably for most of the contest. As mentioned earlier, the victory lifts the Legends out of the dreaded relegation zone, while Croatia SC remains in third place with a 5-1-3 record.

On Sunday evening, at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, the visiting ICSF Inter upset West Van FC by a 1-0 score. The match was quite evenly played with both teams sharing the possession of the ball and taking turns creating goalscoring opportunities. Inter carried most of the play in the early going but some excellent goalkeeping on the part of Marco Durante kept the game scoreless until the dying moments of the first half. Ironically, it was a faux pas on the part of Durante that allowed Inter to take the lead just before the halftime whistle. In fact, with speedy Mike Tempesta challenging for a loose ball, Durante belatedly came out of the goal area and fouled his opponent just inside the penalty area. On the ensuing penalty kick, Joseph Marrello sent Durante the wrong way and easily scored the lone goal of the match with a well-placed low shot. In the second half, West Van dictated most of the pace and came close to equalizing on a few occasions but some excellent defending on the part of Inter’s Scott Spracklin and Bevan Footman—as well as some poor finishing by the West Van forwards—kept the home team off the score sheet. In particular, a Paul Dailly cross found a diving Ryan Glanville, whose header skidded just wide of the post with goalkeeper Erman Ozkan well beaten. Near the end of the match, yet another well-placed cross by Dailly was headed towards the net by Max Baessato only to have defender Scott Spracklin clear it off the goal line. It should also be mentioned that ICSF also came close to adding to its lead in the late stages of the match when Mike Tempesta—after beating a couple of defenders—laid a perfect pass to Cristiano Tropeano, whose wicked shot was brilliantly saved by Marco Durante. The victory places ICSF in a 4th place tie with Columbus-Clan FC, while West Van remains in second place, but drops 5 points behind the Metro-Ford Wolves.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: DELTA WFC for its amazing performance in defeating the defending VMSL champions—Sporting Club of Vancouver—by an unbelievable 6-0 margin. Led by the excellent performances of forwards Gagan Dosanjh and Marcus Johnston—as well as the steady and composed effort of defender Luca Bellissomo—the young prospects totally dominated the entire 90 minutes of play and fully deserved the emphatic margin of victory.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RCIU Legends’ SPENCER COPPIN for his excellent performance in his team’s 3-2 upset victory over Croatia SC. Not only did Coppin score the winning goal with a remarkable first-time volley, but he also set up Justin Student for the tying goal with a well-taken free kick. Furthermore, Coppin was a going concern all game long in his midfield position. For his brilliant effort, COPPIN will receive a prize of a pizza for two, compliments of THE GOLDEN BOOT CAFFE`. The prize is available up to 2008-11-21.

Wao the posts sound fantastic. But I went to see four games this weekend. It is not what I have seen. West Van game was absolutly boring. Very litly wide play. Mostley hurd drive down the midle. Only Tempesta made few runs and got a poenalty shot out of it. And on top of he never even got revorded for his hard work. His fall was the high light of the game. West Vans youg man that plays in Hungarian leagues displayed some fantastic tutches but the suport was over runnig his play and most of the time made it toeasy for ISSF defenders. Most of the night guys head hard time to string three passes in that game.

Mr. Base... why are you such a Debbie Downer on the VMSL? These write ups help to promote the best league in BC. What are you doing to help the quality of football in this province? You know... for the kids... the ones you have a raging hard-on for. Sending them to the FVSL? If so... here's a tip. Make sure the team sheets are completed properly. You're welcome.

Do not get me wrong. I do like the game. I just do not like the tunel vision of the game buildup. It has to improve. It is not about dribling. It is about a unit play and holding shape. And most of all fitness to last the game. And about hard shots and good set plays. They are non existant in most of the games.

With us, Croatia Soccer club ,Nk Hrvat,HNK Vatreni,Sacceroos,Svorenic Bottle boys,Torcida,Over forty Varteks and over fifty Croatia soccer clubs makes it nice for our community. Maybe soon a U21. That only if Horvat has got nothing to do with U21 league.

WEEK #10—2008-11-11

The past weekend featured only one upset as the visiting Westside FC squeaked by ICSF Inter by a 2-1 margin. Three other matches ended in ties, meaning that the standings remain more of less the same as at the end of the previous week. On the nasty side of the ledger, one game—between Delta WFC and the Serbian White Eagles—was abandoned by the referee midway through the second half due to the excessive misbehaviour of some players and fans.

In a Day 11 match, advanced to an earlier date, the newly-promoted RCIU Legends continued to impress by defeating Sporting Club by a 2-0 margin. The game, played on Wednesday evening at Vancouver Technical School, turned out to be a hard-fought battle with Sporting Club demonstrating superior skills and the Richmond boys replying with much more grit and determination. The Legends opened the scoring midway through the first half when Mike Revel’s near post run allowed him to finish off an excellent two-way passing play between Chris Jarvie and Matt Rota. In the second half, Sporting Club tried hard to get back into the match but some excellent defensive work on the part of Geoff Salt and Tim Sowerby kept the reigning champions off the scoresheet. Late in the match, on a counter-attack, Darren Prentice broke in all alone and slotted the ball into the back of the Sporting net for the insurance marker. Just before the final whistle, Richmond’s Brad Caldwell was ejected from the match for having received his second caution. Club Ireland’s goalkeeper Matt Clayton recorded the shutout as the Legends climbed into the middle of the pack in the Premier Division table.

On Friday evening, at Vancouver Technical School, Westside FC upset ICSF Inter by defeating the home team by a 2-1 margin after an interesting and somewhat exciting 90 minutes of play. The Westsiders got off to a positive start, taking the play to Inter with some excellent ball movement and gritty determination. However, some poor finishing on the part of the Westside attackers kept the game scoreless at the halftime whistle. In particular, Nick Graham, Jay Kent-Hume, and Chris Mehuys failed to convert what could be described as good scoring chances. The second half told a totally different story as Inter started applying some serious pressure and came close to taking the lead on a couple of occasions. However, some excellent defending on the part of Kieran O’Callaghan, Nick Graham, and Jason Small kept the vaunted ICSF attack at bay. Also, some poor finishing on the part of Inter’s Adam Wallace, Cristiano Tropeano, and VJ Kos kept the match scoreless until the 70th minute mark. Shortly after Westside’s Chris Mehuys was ejected from the match for an alleged serious foul play infraction, defender Kieran O’Callaghan struck a vicious half-volley into the net from a corner kick scramble to give Westside the lead. Soon thereafter, O’Callaghan committed an uncharacteristic defensive blunder as he lost possession of the ball inside the Westside penalty area. Without a moment’s hesitation, Joseph Marrello pounced on the loose ball and slotted it home for the equalizer. However, just before the final whistle, with Inter desperately attacking in search of the winning goal, a Keith Moore free kick was headed back into the middle of the box by player/coach Jason Small. Nick Graham proceeded to head the ball home for Westside’s well-deserved winning goal. The result prevents Inter from advancing into the top bracket of the standings, while Westside is now in the middle of the table with an even 4-2-4 record.

Also on Friday evening, at Cloverdale Athletic Park in Surrey, two struggling teams—Surrey United Firefighters and the Norvan Eagles—settled for a 3-3 tie after a very entertaining 90 minutes of non-stop action. Early in the match, Surrey took the lead when young Donald Kambere, after making a great run down the flank, sent a speculative cross into the Norvan box, a cross that was inadvertently deflected into his own goal by veteran defender Edward (Woody) Bradford. Midway through the half, the ‘Firefighters’ added a second goal to their lead when Peter Bergholtz stripped the ball away from Bradford at the edge of the penalty area before passing it onto the path of player/coach Niall Thompson who calmly slotted it home. Shortly thereafter, the Eagles got back into the game when former Surrey United player Brian Fowler converted a penalty kick, awarded when another former Surrey United player—Shawn Blakeway—was pulled down inside the box by defender Brad Peetoom. In the second half, Norvan continued to apply pressure and took the lead by scoring two goal in rapid succession. First, a wicked drive by John McCaig found the back of the net and then newly-signed Ryan Hopp—yet another former Surrey United player playing for Norvan—gave his team the lead as he took advantage of some sloppy defending by the Firemen. The home team bounced back and was awarded a penalty kick at about the 75th minute mark when Niall Thompson was fouled inside the penalty area. Unfortunately for the Firefighters, Thompson hit the goalpost on the spot shot thus erasing the home team’s opportunity to tie things up. Late in the game however, Thompson made amends for his faux pas by blasting a wicked shot towards the Norvan net, a shot that found the back of the net, albeit with the assistance of a deflection by defender Matt Brewster. All in all, a very interesting match between two teams looking desperately for all 3 points. The result, however, leaves both of them near the bottom of the standings.

Also on Friday evening, at Simon Fraser University, Delta WFC hosted the Serbian White Eagles in what turned out to be a nightmare of a match. In fact, midway through the second half with the score tied at 1-1, the referee abandoned the game due to the misbehaviour of some players and fans. Both goals were scored on penalty kicks—with Alex Semenets scoring for Delta and Dejan Purisic for the White Eagles. At its next executive meeting—in early December—the VMSL executive board will arrive a decision regarding the outcome of the match.

On Saturday, at Minoru Park in Richmond, the RCIU Legends played their third game in 7 days, this one against the short-staffed Columbus-Clan FC. After 90 minutes of fine football, both teams had to settle for a 2-2 tie—a fair result since each team dominated one half of the contest. Missing 5 starters due to suspensions, Columbus fell behind 2-0 in the first half as the Legends dictated the pace of the game right from the opening whistle. Led by the indomitable play of midfielders Mike Revel and Spencer Coppin, Richmond took the lead midway through the first half when a perfectly-driven corner kick by Jon Bula was headed into the top corner of the net by a darting Geoff Salt. Soon thereafter, the Legends added their second goal of the match as Justin Student smashed home a wonderful volley on a fine set-up by Spencer Coppin. In the second half, however, Columbus bounced back and—led by the determined play of midfielder Tino Cucca—started to take over the reins of the match. Veteran Tiernan King—after being fouled at the edge of the penalty area—finally scored Columbus’ first goal as he blasted a well-taken free kick into the Club Ireland net. Late in the game, Columbus scored the equalizer after youth call-up Vito Iacobellis was fouled, once again just outside the penalty area. This time, King slid a clever pass to an unmarked Tino Cucca who made no mistake from close range. Richmond defender Geoff Salt and Columbus midfielder Tino Cucca turned in outstanding performances throughout the contest.

On Sunday, at Hastings Bowl in Vancouver, Croatia SC hosted Sporting Club of Vancouver and, after a hard-fought and closely-contested 90 minutes, settled for a rather disappointing 1-1 tie. Croatia had the better chances in the early going, with Petar Sulentic missing the net on a couple of occasions—both on set-ups by younger brother Johnny Sulentic. Veteran Johnny Pashalidis—on a great pass by Marteen Koorn—also had a clear-cut opportunity to score in the first half, but his shot sailed over the crossbar. Croatia continued to dominate the game in the second half and once again came close to scoring when Johnny Sulentic unleashed a blazing drive from the edge of the penalty area only to have goalkeeper Brian Brum come up with a magnificent save. As luck would have it, however, it was Sporting Club that took the lead in the dying moments of the match when Blake Douglas sent a long, speculative shot from well outside the penalty area towards the Croatia goal. The dipping shot seemed to handcuff newly-signed goalkeeper Kresemir Brzica as it sailed over his head and into the top corner of the net. The Croatians refused to give up and just before the final whistle tied the game when veteran Darko Jelic headed home the equalizer from a well-taken Johnny Sulentic corner kick. The tie does not help either team’s cause as the Croatians remain in third place, 7 points behind the league-leading Metro-Ford Wolves, while Sporting Club is still mired in last place with an unenviable 1-3-7 record.

On Tuesday, at Charles Best School in Coquitlam, West Van FC drew nearer the league-leading Metro-Ford Wolves by edging the home team by a 1-0 score. The former Trollers survived a first half onslaught by the Wolves and bounced back to gain all 3 points with an amazing second half performance. Metro-Ford had at least 6 clear-cut opportunities to score in the first half, but found it impossible to place the ball into the net. On a couple of occasions—on shots by Emilio Bottiglieri and Azad Palani—the goal post got in the way, while on several other chances the ball was cleared off the line by a strategically-placed West Van defender. As luck would have it, West Van took the lead midway through the second half when veteran Paul Dailly finished off a brilliantly-executed pass from Desmond Tachie with a wicked drive from well outside the penalty area. Shortly thereafter, Paul Dailly became the provider as he sent a well-taken corner kick into the box, a cross that Max Baessato converted into the winning goal with a fine header. Metro-Ford came roaring back and finally scored with about 10 minutes to go when newly-signed Keegan Ayre, after beating several West Van defenders, unleashed an unstoppable shot from outside the penalty area into the West Van goal. Metro-Ford continued to press for the equalizer, but the visitors held on and succeeded in taking home the 3 hard-earned points. As mentioned earlier, the victory leaves West Van only 2 points behind the Wolves in the battle for first place in the Premier Division standings.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: WESTSIDE FC for its remarkable performance in defeating the heavily-favoured ICSF Inter by a narrow, but well-earned, 2-1 margin. Despite playing short-handed for most of the second half—due to the expulsion of Chris Mehuys—the Westsiders battled tenaciously and were finally rewarded with the victory. It should also be mentioned that the Westside players and officials reacted in a very sportsmanlike manner to the controversial ejection of Mehuys—a rare occurrence in the VMSL!!!

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: West Van FC’s veteran PAUL DAILLY for his excellent performance in his team’s 2-1 victory over the league-leading Metro-Ford Wolves. After being totally outplayed in a scoreless first half, West Van came roaring back in the second half and—led by the outstanding play of Paul Dailly—managed to take home all 3 points. Dailly was involved in both goals as he scored the first on a brilliant drive from long range and assisted on the second with an impeccable corner kick. For his brilliant effort, DAILLY will receive a prize of a pizza for two, compliments of THE GOLDEN BOOT CAFFE`. The prize is available up to 2008-11-28.

Game report on Croatia Socer club was un true. The tie came on a run up by Brkich and a cross, ball was cleared to the side. Nick Marcina was the guy that went and got the ball fed it to Jelic with a perfect cross for a tie.

Of course these reports cannot be taken seriously. Furthermore, why don't they ever mention the referees. They are also part of the game.
Furthermore, same players are always mentioned..time and time again...and at the end of the year, same players will make an All star team, even though some of them did not even have that good of a season. A lot of biases - that's for sure.
