Some big question marks this round, as key players may be missing at an inopportune time.

Rumours that CMF will be without Basso due to injury and FC Tigers starting GK is in a race to be fit for the match after getting injured in a 4-0 beatdown by Cavalry FC last weekend.

Also a couple of Chinter players decided to go play in the Canadian Futsal Championships this weekend rather than stick around and get pumped by BB5. (spoiler: they got pumped 5-0 in their first match at the Futsal Championships)

Predictions:
BB5 [VMSL] vs Chinter [VMSL]
Lakehill [VISL] vs MetroFord [VMSL]
FC Tigers [FVSL] vs Croatia [VMSL]
Abbotsford [FVSL] vs Micro Footie [FVSL]

Be honest... You thought they weren't coming...

Completely Baseless Predictions - Men's A Cup Quarter Finals
Round of 16: 7/8
Overall: 7/8

BB5 United CCB (VMSL) vs Inter EDC (VMSL)
It was certainly job done for the reigning champions and in some style as well after they opened the competition with an 11-0 drubbing of Bays United. The back-to-back Provincial kings made it across the first hurdle at trot but will face a stiffer test in domestic challengers Inter. Inter handed BB5 their one loss this season and played them to a close 3-2 loss down the stretch when Inter were more or less locked into their Provincials spot but BB5 were still trying to lock up their second league title on the bounce. These teams and players know each other well and there is definitely no love lost. It sets up as a top contest. The word that likely best describes Inter's season is inconsistent. That strong showing against BB5 near the end of the season was followed up by a rather dismal showing against relegation beleaguered Coastal. Now, that may well come down to fixture congestion, but, regardless, it seems nearly certain that nothing less than a full strength Inter squad will be enough in this one. BB5 are well deserved favourites in this match given their star power and the hardware they have collected to date. That said, this one will be worth keeping an eye on especially given the new "straight to PKs" format of the tournament. Expect Inter to be cheeky and pesky and annoying. If BB5 cannot get a lead and force Inter to chase this could be on a knife's edge all night.

Lakehill FC (VISL) vs Coquitlam Metro Ford Wolves (VMSL)
This one should be good with the Island champions welcoming the VMSL's runners up. Metro Ford talisman Carlo Basso is out for the Tri-Cities boys after suffering an injury during Coquitlam's first round trip to the Island and their win over Vic West. Their reward for their success is a trip back to the Island, this time to face the VISL's champions. Lakehill avenged their shock first round exit to Abbotsford last year but putting West Van to the sword in their opener. It was a rather straightforward result, but Metro Ford will be a step up from the North Shore boys, even without Basso and any others who cannot make back-to-back Island outings. In years gone by the VISL League winners at home would be an automatic choice. However, the Island's recent showing in this competition, including Lakehill's performance last season, has to give one pause, even with their retooled and reloaded lineup. Much comes in this game likely comes down to what type of squad Metro Ford can muster for a Sunday afternoon trip to the Island. This one is a toss up, but until the VISL can prove it has reestablished its home field advantage, the Mainland team have to be slight favorites.

FC Tigers Vancouver (FVSL) vs Croatia SC (VMSL)
No doubt that this one is the Match of the Round. Tigers will face VMSL competition at the quarter final stage this season, after avoiding it on the way to last season's final before falling to BB5. A trip to Calgary during the Easter bye week may prove costly as first choice goalkeeper Lukas Strauts is rumoured to be struggling with injury. While Tigers do have other options, not having Strauts available would further weaken a defense that is already the Achilles heel of Tigers. Their attack is often irresistible, but Erik Edwardson et al may well be asked to do more than their usual heavy lifting if the FVSL champions are to continue their quest for a first Provincial title. All of this is music to the ears of Croatia who would have already fancied their chances after a very strong finish their season and a strong showing in surviving a first round trip to the Island. Croatia had the joint best defensive record in the VMSL's top flight this season alongside BB5. If they can smother the Tiger's offense, the likes of Emile Samovicci and Edris Njam will be looking to provide the goals to take Croatia to the semi-final where they will host further FVSL opposition. Tigers will be keen to see off this challenge with domestic opposition guaranteed to be waiting in the next round. This may be their toughest of the season so far though, and if they are not at full strength it might just be a bridge to far.

Abbotsford United (FVSL) vs Micro Footie (FVSL)
Well that certainly did not go as planned for BC Soccer as their PCSL representative from the Interior, who were given a spot at the last minute under less than transparent circumstances and at the expense of the VMSL, were unceremoniously ousted by FVSL afterthoughts Micro Footie in convincing fashion. Fair play to Micro Footie who showed their quality, and the quality of the footy on the coast overall. Would the result have been different against a team like Port Moody from the VMSL? We will never know. What we do know is that Micro Footie were mired need the bottom of the FVSL while Abbotsford were in the title hunt right up to the final weeks. We also know that Abbotsford took nine points off MFA this season, winning all three league meetings. One of the games was a drubbing, but the other two were close, including a spicy 3-2 win for Abby in January that featured three red cards. This is an open and shut case with Abbotsford as clear favourites. That said, betting against MFA last time out proved folly, so, perhaps, lightning can strike twice. Albeit Okanagan were a wild card. Abbotsford are a known entity and are hungry for success and a chance to be the last FVSL team standing, either in the next round or by defeating arch rivals Tigers.

5-0 BB5 over Inter.

Danylo Smychenko put the defending champs ahead 5 minutes in. Nic Apostol was sent off for a DOGSO push in box on half hour mark, but Mamadi Camara hit the post with his penalty.

Nic Morello with a wonder strike and a nice goal from Camara had BB5 3-0 up at half time. Inter to their credit kept pushing but a pair of goals at the start and end of half from Farivar Torabi saw BB5 go nap at the NAP.

10 men again? Didn't that happen to them the last time they came up against a VMSL side?

Did the assistant coach trip the linesman too?

No suspension either, I imagine just a hefty “fine” issued to the good doctor or it was a “donation” from his newly founded fc tigres foundation

It helps when you claim it was an accident and a high ranking BCSA staffer is your brother-in-law that can vouch for you.
