Congratulations to coach Paul Dailly's Capilano College Blues mens soccer team who won the BCCAA title up at TRU in Kamloops this weekend, defeating Kwantlen 1-0 in the final. Capilano had defeated league runners-up Malaspina in the semi-final 2-1 in overtime, and Kwantlen defeated league Champions Douglas College 1-0 (shootout) in the other semi final.

On the women's side, Langara defeated TRU in the final.

Congratulations to Langara..

The CCAA mens championships will be held locally this year at Langara November 8-11. (Someone a little more computer literate than I can probably link this to the CCAA championsihp site)...

This is very good soccer, come out and support Nov 8-11!

2 years in a row? How does that work?

Lump and run worked for Langara last year in the womens' final. Are they going to have another chance this year, CHAB?

It was a 2-year bid that Langara won so this is year 2 of that bid. The CCAA initially wanted a 3-year bid but very few if any colleges want to commit for that long, with the exception of a few basketball schools.

Yes the girls have a very good chance as they are the favorites but F-X-Garneau will be very strong as usual. They won the previous 3 National Titles prior to last year when our girls won it. We are younger I think but we have some veterans that can make all the difference and we are loaded with strikers.

So today out at BLWSC,

Capilano (#1 seed) defeated #6 Mt. St. Vincent 4-2. Cap were up 3-nil and made wholesale changes and gave up a couple of late and sloppy goals. They seemed clearly the better side.

Also #2 Algonquin defeated #5 Langara 4-0. I did not see this game.

Tomorrow:

#3 Grant MacEwan vs #5 Langara at 1030.

#4 Champlain vs #6 Mt. St. Vincent at 1300.

Friday:

#2 Algonquin vs # 3 Grant MacEwan at 1030.

#1 Capilano vs #4 Champlain at 1300.

Have not seen a lot, but Algonquin's result today was very impressive, and Cap could have sealed the deal a bit better, those late goals could eventually bite them...the top two go straight to the final after this stage.

Can'tHeadABball I will defer to you to comment on the women's side of things.

Cheers.

Men's side

Algonquin may have beaten Langara 4-0 but they are not as good as the hype. They would be in tough with Douglas, Kwantlen, Malaspina and Capilano in BC. Douglas could very well have been the favorites if they were here.

Capilano vs MSVU - didn't see it but they don't have their starting goalie for the tournament.

Women's side

TRU defeats F-X-Garneau 1-0 in the 100th minute (OT). Apparenlty, FX-G are sore losers from what I am told.

Langara 9 NSAC 0 - not much competition for sure. Hopefully they will get up for the next game on Friday. Zoe scores a great 1st goal in the first few minutes undressing her check down the left side cuts in to the corner of the 6 and rifles a shot to the top left corner. Wish we had her playing on the men's team as we could have used her.

I caught the second half of the Cap men's game, after being stuck in a traffic jam on Hwy. 1. It was actually quite an exciting game, with Cap pretty consistently running at Champlain, who sat back and tried to counter with a couple of pacey strikers. This was rewarded when they bagged their second at 55 minutes. Capilano got one back on a PK at about the 70 minute mark, when the Champlain sweeper tugged down the Capilano College player in the box. When Walks blew this one down it was pretty funny to watch the "Moose" from Archie comics Champlain coach go absolutely mental, and then again on a mean nothing offside...going full on at the 4th official (it was a PK there Moose). Anyway, from what I saw , Cap carried more of the play, but Champlain deserved their win, Cap could not finish and (sorry about this) were outclassed in the goalkeeping department.

Really good game though, and Walks did a fine job.

Was watching the Langara Women's game and parts of the CAP game and I am told Birza missed enough chances in the 1st half to put CAP up with a good lead. If he had scored before halftime, it could have been a different game. Unfortunate for CAP as it is not their starting keeper. He is injured.
