Usually if you graduate on time, don't you graduate in 4 years?

Spoken like someone that has never played a minute of University sports. Typically scholar athletes do not graduate in 4 years given that few if any will take full course loads during their playing season. 15 credits and 4-5 days of sports commitment are not conducive to achieving solid grades.

It used to be 3 - 4 courses during playing season. 4-5 second semester and maybe 1 course during the summer if you wanted to graduate in 4 years. Again, few if any did this. Typically it was a 4.5 to 5 year process.

Your right, I am a high-school drop-out what do I know?

My point is typically student-athletes who stay at their school for 4 years of playing tend to graduate. This could be in 4-5 years....

But that's not what you said. Further, I didn't attack your education, or lack thereof, I simply stated that you obviously hadn't ever played for a varsity athletic program in university.

You must have unreal access to these graduation rates and financial stats! Usually if you graduate on time, don't you graduate in 4 years?

Bronco is correct, most athletes can't take a full course load during the season and come home during the summer. A lot don't go back for that 5th or even 6th year to get the rest of their credits. Plus in the States they will be paying about $20, 000-25, 000 for that final year of non-scholarship education.

Remember that you are allowed to play 5 years at UBC........so a lot of players stay for the five years and spread the courses out. Or in some cases the players enjoy the social life over the 5 years rather than rushing things over the 4 years.

Couldn't "little smithers" try out for the BC team and get the necessary exposure there? I'm sure that his folks are swimming in money and would be willing to snowmobile him out to the Lower Mainland for weekly training sessions and games.

WTF does Surrey United think they are doing? Has anyone in the club heard of St. Patrick's Day? It's only the biggest day of the year and to have a combine during that day is nothing less than shocking.

We'll have lots of green bibs and you aren't eligible so you can carry on with your activities for the day.

With the Surrey event being cancelled, has anyone heard of other options? Might just gave to arrange to get him down to Vancouver over Spring break and get some time with various coaches.

Both combins were done. One was held for MLS and one was held for USL/NASL. No one from local kids. They control it by inwite. The only reason is Provice and local paper the actualy bring USA sports for us to read. Very little on our Collage kids. Kids from here must play in US DL in orther to have a chance at show case. Local clubs all know who the best kids are. Local Universities select kids from High School tournament. If any good kids are left after all that PCSL is the best bet for them to develop their skill bit more. My gut feeling is, on all this our kids must go to Europle. Make a div three side and try to stick it out.
Caps have their eye on div one USA collage kids, due to better development and better size and skill than some local kids.
Maybe with addition of HPL parents might opt out of residancy and play HPL. I still must say ABBI and Victoria Highlanders head the right idea.

Few comments, Base. Yours was a tough post follow as no one was discussing the combine(s).

1. MLS and USL Combines are not showcases for university - which is the point of the thread.
2. There were some Canadian kids there - but you are right, it is invite only. Mostly American university kids with some exceptions like John Rooney.
3. What does MLS/USL care about the Province and if it talks about Canadian sports or not in regards to the combine?! Nevermind, that was rhetorical.
4. Yes, kids should go to Europe if given a chance to.
5. Caps are supporting the HPL and thus bringing in BC kids to the USSDA program for u16 and u18 next year - they haven't had any kids to take locally! Oh, you know, except for Ethan Gage....
6. The kids must go to Residency if invited/make-the-cut. It is top of youth pyramid here. It is also free.
7. What idea did AbbY and Highlanders have? PDL?

Any player's interested in Post Secondary Education can contact the Universities directly and the Coach will be able to arrange a scouting trip, or have the player come down.
At University of the Fraser Valley,we like to see the player in a game to assess his or her abilities. There are a lot of player's who talk a good game, but you can usually tell in the warm up,or the first five minutes of the session,if they can play or not.
For the Lower Mainland, it is Metro calibre player's that have the best chance, however, you never know what you might be missing, so it is always worth a look.
It is surprising who shows up at the School and asks about the program.
