Report: Carles Puyol could come out of retirement, play in MLS

Carles Puyol could be making a comeback.

Reports out of Spain suggest the former Barcelona captain - who retired following the 2013-14 season, thanks in part to persistent knee troubles - could be lured out of his slumber by an offer from Major League Soccer.

The 37-year-old, who won three Champions League titles and six La Liga crowns during his sparkling 15-year career at the Camp Nou, and topped that off with a European Championship (2008) and World Cup (2010), joined Barcelona's front office after hanging up his boots, but relinquished his role as assistant sporting director when friend and mentor Andoni Zubizarreta was fired in January.

Now, Spanish publications Sport and Mundo Deportivo claim Puyol, he of the luxuriant curly locks, has been working on his fitness in an attempt to stage a comeback.

The former claimed that the Colorado Rapids have already made a significant contract offer, while the latter said the two clubs in New York, where Puyol now lives, are in pole position to secure a potential signature.

For a guy with knee problems I'm sure he's excited to come play in a league where multiple venues use an artificial playing surface  ...
