Our season started on the weekend at the annual South Kamloops tournament.....

SD 1 Rutland 0

SD 2 Williams Lake 1 (penalties)

SD 0 Valleyview 2

SD 4 Handsworth 1

Overall, a good start for the girls......only had 11 for day two due to 6 players leaving for the Coastal Cup final in their age group, 1 girl leaving for a funeral, and one girl finishing her TRU obligation to the basketball team she will be playing for next year on scholarship.

Won lots of money at the casino.......

First league game today........

South Delta 2 Earl Marriott 0

Overall, we deserved to win the game against Studs Up's girls. They were bigger and stronger but we were certainly quicker in key areas of the field. Flukey own goal for our first which was ironic since we had quite a few chances before this......and the second with about 10 minutes to go.

Work our asses off today and are hoping to keep improving.......

We played Valleyview as well and got our lunches handed to us: 4-0. Even though we are not very strong, it is obvious that they are a very good team, especially since they are AA ( I believe).

My big beef is with the number of Metro Coaches and Provincial coaches especially who have created policies where their players are not allowed to play high school soccer. I feel sorry for the young girls who want to play school soccer but know that they will forever be blacklisted in Provincial/National team matters if they do play.

I'm not sure what can be done, but a letter to our local sports-writer is pending.

Good for you, Dial....we've also had the same problem in the past......However, our girl(Caitlin Davie) who is now at UBC.......did everything she possibly could to play on the school team and missed very little over the 4 years she was with us. She said that she enjoyed the school soccer more because it is more relaxed and she was playing with her friends from school. Finally she was fed up with all the bullshit and decided to just play her last year 'in peace'. She is now the reigning Canada West Rookie of the Year and National Final MVP.........meaning that the Provincial shite in the long run can very easily mean fcuk-all. You couldn't mean a nicer kid either...

As for Valleyview, the 2 - 0 score flattered them big time.......we missed a penalty with 5 minutes to go and they only had the one shot before that....as will be a problem for us most of the season, we failed to convert on several quality chances.........they received a penalty in added time to score the 2nd.......

After a spirited performance against Studsup's team, we were ****ing terrible today. Terrible. Not much else to say except 3 points and still a lot of much needed bodies to come.......

A few updates from the Devils camp........

After beating Tamanawis 2 - 0, we thumped North Delta 5 - 0. From here we went on to the Sardis Invitational this weekend and ended up winning it. Great accomplishment for the girls as there were a few handy teams in the tournament, with South Kamloops being the strongest. Our girls played the game of the year against them and won 1 - 0. In fact, our first 3 games were all won by a 1 - 0 score. Great attacking.

Final results.....

SD 1 Kwantlen 0

SD 1 South Kamloops 0

SD 1 Sardis 0

SD 1 Carihi 1 (PK win)

Final:

SD 2 Norfolk-Lyon(?) 0 Island school who is single 'A' I think......Unfortunately for us, our side of the draw was nasty compared to the other side but in the end it worked out better.

On to a showdown for first place in the league on Tuesday against Semiamhoo.

Go Devils.

Semi 1 South Delta 0 - lost on a shot from inside the center circle. Nice bit of goalkeeping. Squandered many chances.....

Seaquam 2 South Delta 3 - managed a few goals this game for a change despite playing on the smallest field in the world.

We play Delta on Monday and North Delta on Thursday. Last league game is against Semi again next Tuesday and hopefully that will be a first place showdown......

South Delta 4 North Delta 0 - one way traffic as we scored 3 goals in the first 18 minutes........

South Delta 1 Semiamhoo 0 - some revenge for the first loss and more importantly.......first place and a top 4 seed(2nd or 3rd) in the Valleys........

A deserved win for the Devils but our keeper had to stop a penalty with 9 minutes to go.........:)

On to the seedings meeting on Friday at the Shark Club in Langley. :)

We scored 4 in the first half (despite sitting our 5 top players for the last 25 minutes)........4 in the second half.......with our top players getting rested again and playing both our goalies up front for the last 15 minutes.....the game was cut short by about 6 minutes.......

They were a VERY young team and unfortunately quit just after the half.....:( We now play North Surrey who is supposed to be a very strong team. On to Thursday......

South Delta 3 Charles Best 3 ( 3 - 1 CB on penalties)

A devastating loss to say the least........We had a 3 - 1 lead with 25 minutes to go(we haven't given up more than 2 goals in a game in over 2 years) and to make it worse, we had a penalty kick with 1 minutes to go in the game and we missed.......fcuking gutted and now we have to win Wednesday to progress to the provincials..........it definitely is a funny old game. :D
