Hello again.

It is time to start up a bit of discussion about this season's rankings. How should this shake out to start the year? Staff are looking for reader input. A few items for consideration:

Westside are BC Champs, but fininished fourth last year in the VMSL, and lost out in VMSL Cup play earlier on, and are usually slow starters. Staff are exploring rumours that some of their players have moved on.

Delta FC were BC finalists, but staff are reporting they may struggle to make the BCs this year?

Poco Castillians were double winners (Cup and League) last year in the FVSL, but lost out early in the BCs...staff are reporting they have added some players this year, including a poach or two from the BC Champs. Possible #1 ranking out of the gate? Or not?

Columbus FC were a strong second place finisher in the VMSL last year, and have benefited from Cliff's demise...always a contender...

West Van FC were VMSL double winners last year, but their team has split in two, downsizing the Prem side, who have added several quality new players, and had several players move on to a team run by Eagles....

Surrey United have parted ways with Coach et al...they have been sliding a bit lately, but pulled things together late last year to qualify for the BCs and make the VMSL Cup final...what is on the horizon for this team, formerly a real heavyweight in these rankings.

Sapperton finished 3rd in the VMSL last year, but rumour has it this team is another squad who had a bit of a break up over the off season, and have been struggling to find new players.

NDUA...what is going on with these guys? Curiously quiet out of that camp...RF, is there another reunion, and is Coach et al looking to amalgamate with another in a series of teams?

Speaking of amalgamation, what is going on with this unholy Peace Arch/Dragons tryst? Could not have Peace Arch just merged with Peace Arch?

What is going on up in the NCSL?

In any event, welcome back to this year's rankings. Staff really appreciate any input provided by you fans out there.

NAFC from the NSCL has supposedly picked up 5 players from Cliff Ave and looks like they will be competing for top spot and a place in the BC's this year!!

POCO unbeatable and the dragons breathing fire.....Delta struggling to stay in the premier div this year.

NDUA struggling to find their identity and Peace Arch going undefeated but finishing 8th.

SirM we just aren't a very good league.

Sir M. Time to update the rankings. After this week's results I would say:

1. Westside. Won their first game and BC Champs
2. West Van. League and cup winners also won their first game.
3. PA Dragones. Destroyed BC Cup finalists 5-0.
4. Sapperton Rovers. Won their first game as well.
5. Uvic Alumni. Beat Van Treights 5-0.

Thanks for the input JTL. I am waiting 2-3 weeks due to staff having a late summer vacation on the Sorbonne. but stay tuned. PS rumour has it that Moneyman is offering big $$ to the Carphin brothers.

Well, Sir M. Any updates on the rankings. Definitely some early favourites. White Rock is the surprise team in the FVSL being the only team with 3 wins.

JTL, next week...out of town recently, and staff as a result have resorted back to being a collection of vagabonds. Cheers M.

Sorry JTL, and you are right...next week as I have been out of town, and as a result staff have deviated back to being a bunch of vagabonds and carpet-baggers. Off of the top of my head, notwithstanding this upcoming weekend's results, I would lean in the direction of a top ten of (more or less)

Westside
Sapp
Poco
White Rock
Dragons
West Van
Columbus
Delta
PAFC
NDUA/Richmond or SU?

But that is without much research truth be told...so a bit of a guess. Input anyone?

Ok, sorry for the delay. Things are finally getting into focus now... staff do not have a lot of time these days, due mostly to bail restrictions. But they have finally been able to hammer out the debut edition of:

Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings 2010-2011

1. Columbus FC (VMSL). Columbus started a bit slowly, but their defeat of the BC Champs on the weekend puts them top of the VMSL Premier table, and more importantly, this week's rankings. They are at home to West Van next.

2. White Rock United (FVSL). A bit of an unknown commodity, this side is the only unbeaten and untied Masters team south of Burrard Inlet. Home to Delta United next.

3. West Van FC (VMSL). They also had a slow start, but the reigning VMSL Champions are now in second place in VMSL Masters Premier, a point adrift of #1 Columbus, who they visit this coming Friday.

4. Port Coquitlam Castillians (FVSL). The reigning FVSL Champions had a bit of a hiccup early on, but appear to have righted the Castillian ship. Staff are reporting that their game this week has been postponed due to a self deprecation help group meeting.

5. Westside FC A (VMSL). Westside suffered a bit of a post Western Canadians hangover on Saturday, but staff predict that the reigning Provincial Champions will be right there at the end. Away to Wickham next. It will be raining, it will be dark, and Anti-Fan will have the tanning booth up in the tree fort running.

6. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL). This team has had a changeover in staff, and should contend again this year despite a setback out at Ambleside on Saturday. They host PCOV this weekend.

7. South Delta United (FVSL). South Delta has had a fast start to the year, and are in third place in the FVSL. They host the unholy Chilliwack-Mission merger this weekend.

8. Peace Arch Dragons (FVSL). Currently in fourth place in the FVSL, this team has a lot of talent, but needs to find consistency, staff report. Away to NDAU next, possible FVSL MOTW.

9. Portuguese Club of Vancouver (VMSL). PCOV is another team that has been a bit inconsistent this year, but had a good result on the weekend. Away to Sapperton next.

10. Delta United (FVSL). DU has come out of the gates with a 2-1-1- record. Traditionally, they are right there at the end of the year in the FVSL, and lest anyone forget, they were Provincial Cup finalists last year. Away to WRU next: that should be a barnburner.

11. Surrey United (VMSL). SU has a pedigree as good as any team in Masters football. Staff report that they need to get some players to commit more week in and week out, in which case they will be fine. Home to Romanian next.

12. Wickham FC (VMSL). Wickham are an honest team, and have a very tough home park to play in. Currently in sixth place in the VMSL. They host Westside Friday.

13. Norvan FC (NSCL). Well...welcome back to the rankings Norvan. A 4-0-0 start in the NSCL. Away to Roma next, MOTW...!
14. Roma FC (NSCL). Roma are also unbeaten and untied at 3-0-0 on the North Shore. See above :bronco:.

15. Peace Arch United (FVSL). PAU are one of several Peace Arch teams in Masters football. They are currently languishing in sixth place in the FVSL. They need to step it up a bit. Their game is postponed this weekend, staff report.

16. Richmond FC (VMSL). Speaking of languishing (and no Sir M is not referring to a particular 3 Road and Minoru dialect) Richmond has to step things up a bit. Away to KLM Alemania next, a chance to pick up some points.

17. North Delta United Alumni (FVSL). Despite their age, these guys are showing a sign of life. Well coached, they are a big team and have a big game coming up against PA Dragons at home.

18. Romanian FC (VMSL). This team will probably battle all year against relegation in the VMSL, but did make a significant step towards their goal of remaining in Premier on the weekend. Out at CAP this Sunday.

19. New Amsterdam FC (NSCL). NAFC is 2-0-1 to start the year, and will probably battle all year for an NSCL spot in the BCs. Away to Nordic on Sunday.

20. Nordic FC (NSCL). These guys are in third place in the NSCL, but staff report they may be struggling for players this year. They host NAFC this weekend.

So there you go for this week...good luck to all rankings teams this weekend.

Sapperton #6

Happy to be as high as #6 after losing to WestVan last weekend. Good spot to work our way up in the rankings heading towards the #1 spot at Christmas break.

White Rock is the team to beat in the Valley, apparently the Dragon's are next and then it is a coin flip between South Delta and Poco.

They never are until Provincials...funding for staff on the Island was cut off years ago. On another note, here is some video action involving a couple ranked teams from the weekend...

Video Centre

PS I would be more than happy to include our VISL friends if someone can get away from The Log and provide some input...
