Whoa...this is quite lopsided on paper...salary dump? We did give up "prospects" but hey, let's see what Gilly McGillerson's wily maneuverings can do for us.

I don't.

They added a top 4 defenseman, maybe top 5 considering what we already have with Mitchell, Edler, Bieksa, and Salo.

If anyone was moving imho with matthieu schneider here now it would be the oft-injured Salo for a bag of used practice pucks and some rolls of tape.

Corey Schneider is going nowhere until Lu's future is sorted out. I would be shopping him asap if a deal is what has been reported is imminent, if they can't agree term of the deal for 7mill per, then I say move Luongo for an acceptable second tier goalie to partner young Schnieder and pick up a top 6 forward...

Remember no team with a goalie making north of 5 mill per year has won the cup in the "New NHL" with the cap in place.

You either need a vet laden team with more than few on under-market value contracts plus a decent goalie (see Detroit, Anaheim, Carolina) or a team full of guys that are on their rookie deals and have Sid Crosby on your team (See Pittsburgh)

Luongo is worth 7 mill per year, but that doesn't mean that he will ever win a cup while making that much. It leaves too little to be spent on guys that will play 82 games a year, not only 60-65.

I thought Salo had a no trade clause....could be wrong about that though.
That said, I see no value as trade bait in Salo....hes older and made of glass. Who would give up something of value for that?
Im assuming the Luongo deal is essentially done when I include Schnieder....

Wrong. You are right about Salo being worth nothing and having an NTC.

Moving him for a conditional or 7th rounder is a pure salary dump. He'd also most likely accept a deal to the East coast if you found the right situation...

You don't need him with 7 dman with NHL experience like
Mitchell - Edler
Bieksa - Erhoff
O'Brien - Lukovich
Matthieu Schneider as a PP Specialist only, probably have either OB or Lukowich as the odd man out on a rotating basis... and then Rome, Ellington, and Oberg as your youth that can come up.

ehrhoff bieska raymond schnieder for heatly?

ottawa is over the cap right now, so that doesn't completely help them

plus, they have brian elliott as their future goalie if leclaire fizzles out

i think you can get away with: bieksa, raymond, grabner for heatley

but the nucks would still have some cap problems, and would have to make another move, unless they can package demitra for a conditional pick somewhere

They sure got deep in a hurry on the back end.

This officially puts them over the cap, so Gillis must have something else brewing. He's waaaay too cautious to do deals like this Willy Nilly.

That's right, I said Willy Nilly. Deal.

Anyway, I see Demitra possibly moving. Hard to see where he fits now. Your top six forwards could be Sedin x 2, Kesler, Samuelsson, Hodgson & Burrows. All are guys who work hard and fit well within the system. You could also include a more mature Grabner, Wellwood or Bernier in Vigneault's Plug n' Play system.

Maybe Bieksa might be dealt too.

A lot of Salo bashers in Canuckville, but he's not going anywhere. Besides, when healthy for those 9 games per year, he's the best all around d-man on the team.

Cam Ward and Fleury were both asked to Canada Camp, so , that would make them very good goalies who are under-paid.
Osgood has more playoff wins than any other Red Wing, which makes him pretty good too.
Gigeure is no slouch either with a Stanley Cup ring, and previously a Conn Smythe.

I would say those four guys are better than 'decent'

Z,

I meant decent as far as money.

If you look at the pay scales there are only a few guys making really top bucks in the GK position for obvious reasons, and Lu at that money will be the highest paid with no hardware to show for it.

All of those guys were making less than 3.0 IIRC per year prior and some of those guys now have bigger contracts (Ward) and haven't been back. IIRC Fleury still has a year on his entry level deal.
