Just heard that EuroBet is offering 6-1 odds that Owen Hargreaves will score a goal in next weeks England-Holland friendly and 25-1 odds that he scores the first one. This is of course dependent upon whether he plays or not, which apparently, is fait accompli.

Would this be worth a gamble? Does WillHill offer anything similiar?

Pretty sure

TB,

Yes, William Hill does offer first goal scorer betting. That will not be on until a couple of days before the game. Personally, I would not have a flutter on that one.

Bet Holland to beat England. That is worth a flutter....

anyhoo, back to what this thread is for

Captain, CD,

What would be in your opinion the best sport to focus on in terms of placing bets and getting value? What I mean is, which bets do you make on a consistent basis that give the best odds and you more often than not, win?

I bet most on what I know best...international soccer. I can't stand betting on horses or dogs because to me it's just a lottery pick. Baseball is OK now that I've been following it a little...fcuk, I even watched a Mariners/Blue Jays game the other night.

Go with the sports you know best.

I will be following the NFL more closely this year....I will probably make quite a few wagers on NFL sundays.:)

No pattern

TB,

I honestly couldn't pin point where I have had most of my success or lack of success. For example, I have gone through magic spells with the horses and dogs. They pay out the best but they are also high risk. They are fcuking animals after all and why I bet $400 on a fcuking dog today is beyond me. However, the sport that 'seems' to be the easiest to make money on 'consistently' is baseball. Sometimes the run lines are fantastic but I, like CD, get suckered into combination bets all the time. When they hit, you're a star. When 4/5 are right, you ask "Why the fcuk did I take that fifth game?"

Again with baseball, there are things you could look for. How many times has this team lost in a row. If a team has lost 3 in a row at home against the same team in a 4 game set, I will ALWAYS bet on the home team. Most teams don't get swept at home. Betting on the starting pitcher is obviously important but some of the wimpy baseball players will leave the game if they have a fcuking blister, so then it is up to a bullpen which could be shaky to say the least.

There are always winners out there, especially if you're willing to take low odds of around 1.35 - 1.50(see my bet for tomorrow). ONce again, I comboed them and will probably get screwed by one of the games.

You can always rely on Alexandra with the dogs/horses. It worked for me today. :)

Are you going to try and get a focus, so you can open the TTP account and get suggestions from other punters?

Again, the only problem is sometimes a baseball bet looks great and others, a hockey bet looks great. CD seems to do well on baseball, as he usually close in most of his bets.

I forgot

Over the years, back in the days when I had a bookie, I made most of my money betting on college football. That is one sport I can honestly say I have made more money than I have lost. I follow that a lot and I think it really helps in that sport more than others. I don't know why but it does......

very helpful

Thanks gurus,

I'm leaning towards occassional soccer, a lot of NFL football, and a little bit of hockey... Of course, following Ally, I think I'll only take teams wearing red kit on the day. If this proves to be successful, consider a little TTP educational fund to be set-up for when the little one grows up.

I'll get Alexandra some stuffed animals too :D

I intend on using this thread on asking for advice on certain bets once I open an account (when I gain focus?). Please don't take the piss outta me since it would force me to move under the Granville bridge and we all know what that did to Fasty...

No piss taking

I would never take the piss out of a fellow bettor. If someone is willing to fork out money for something they truly fancy, then all to them. I don't know anyone who makes a bet and says, "Fcuk, that was an awful bet" right away. Every bet that one makes looks great, unless it is an 8 game combo where someone is looking to get out of debt VERY quickly. :) See Captain's bet on ties tomorrow.

Odds on Petta/Hargreaves

Here is what Willhill is offering for Hargreaves/Petta to score the first goal....

O Hargreaves 26.00 G Van Bronckhorst 26.00

N Butt 26.00 M Melchiot 34.00

Wes Brown 41.00 B Petta 34.00

A better price would be to take Holland at 3.75 and combo them with a tie between Croatia and Ireland This will be my $20 bet.......

I was reading Asian Bookie and Gooner's guide last night and both seem to be leaning towards a draw in that game.

Yes and No

TB,

Celtic are not worth it, unless you're going to wager $1000, which I assume you're not.

Yes to Manchester City and I would have to agree with CD on the Leverkusen tie.

The two big plays for me will be Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. I am thinking about another big bet for this one.....

Relax, son

Relax my good man. Sean Goater will score the winner in the 84th minute. Don't worry. I know Borussia Dortmund won its game. I would hate to mention that Borussia Dortmund was the bet of the weekend(see Thursday night discussion at Manoah Steves), but I did. :) It is not over yet.
