2011 BC Provincial Cup Masters - Draw, Predictions, Results & Banter

The draw for the BC's is Monday April 4th at Creekside Community center at 11am. Four more spots have been added this year, so it will be like the opens Provincials in that 20 teams get in this year instead of 16. So for us older guys means another extra game potentially just to get into the sweet 16 this year. I'm not sure how it will work in what teams will get seeded this year. In the past it was the 4 league winners who automatically where seeded. The leagues are VMSL (7 berths), FVSL(4 berths), VISL(5 berths) and NSCL(3 berths). This year they have added a new 4 team league from the Island who will also gain a BC berth making the total 20 spots.

Teams in so far for sure are
VMSL-
Columbus, West Van. Sapperton, Westside(reigning BC champs), PCOV, Surrey United and Metro Ford who are from div 1 but are Cup finalist/

FVSL-
POCO Castillians
White Rock
Peace Arch Dragons
last spot to be determined between Delta(last year BC runner Up) and South Delta

NSCL-
Norvan
Roma
Last spot to be determined this sunday 12:30 Confed Park between NAFC and Lynn Valley Azteca

VISL-
Looks like Gorge, UVic, Vantrights and Vic West. I'm not sure how the fifth spot gets determined. I also am confused about the new 4 team league and who is involved in it. Maybe someone from the Island can help me out here??

Hey Conductor good for you for posting this! So i am guessing that the prelim round will go the weekend of April 8, and the 16 team tournament will start the weekend of the 15th, and it will go four weeks straight from there. I note that BCSA is imposing suspensions based on two cards etc from last year and carrying them over to this year for this tournament.

Sir M, I don't think they will play Easter weekend? But you are probably correct about starting the prelim's the 9th and 10th. With Sweet 16 week of April 16,17th. Break for Easter long weekend. The 1/4's would be April 30/May1st. semi's May 7/8th. The final has already been posted up for may 14th, so this is the only dates I see it happening , inless someone else know's better?

Not sure if there is anyone from the Island who can give us some sort of idea on the new league over there? Also does anyone know how the prelim draw works? Does everyone get put into the draw except for each league winner?

Seeing as no one on here had any input or answers, I did some research. The 4 league Champs will be seeded and get a bye into the final 16. So Columbus, Poco, Norvan and I believe it is the Gorge from the Island get home games. The other 16 teams will be randomly drawn to see who plays out in the prelims first round. The team representing the 4 team Island league is Qualicum who are also in the random draw!!

Not sure if those numbers work out if single knockout is the format and if there are 4 teams sitting out,(unless the prelimins consisted of 2 rounds to bring those initial teams to a group of 4). At this point a progression to a final two would be possible using single knockout.

Elimination after one loss+20 teams could mean a prelim of 8 teams(randomly drawn from the 16 you mentioned). The winning teams from this single prelimary round would join the remaing group of 12 to make a "Sweet 16". With that said, hang onto your britches for 10 days and you will have your provincial matchup questions answered.

You are right Bonefish, I should have been more clear in my post. It is only 8 teams playing for 4 spots in the prelims~!!

It is Uvic ,Gorge,Vic West,Nanaimo Vantreights are the five teams from the VISL. I have no idea who the team from up island is.

Conductor it wont matter re Cup play for the NSCL anyway re the rankings, as long as staff know who qualifies from the NSCL.
