PCOV 4 - 2 "B" UNITED
went and watched this game... B united scored first, but then PCOV came back strong. Their coach shuffled some players around and it worked instantly, as PCOV tied the game and then took a 2-1 lead before their defense-men scored a stunning goal to make it 3-1. It was from around 20 yards out and it hit the crossbar and went in.
that was the half time score, and they each exchanged goals in the 2nd half and the game ended 4-2
PCOV had some good interplay during the match, they had some good passes, and they loved to use the wings, especially the right side...

Strathcona 1 - 0 Blarney Stone
Blarney(playing in their neon green jerseys) opened the game better, had a couple of corners but no real chances.
We(Strathcona) took the game over half way through first half and had two great chances after corner kicks; first was cleared off the goal line by the defender and on the second, ref failed to call a penalty after Suarez-like save by one of Blarney's players.
The only Blarney's shot on goal came 5 minutes from halftime but our new "real" keeper took care of the shot and the rebound
The only goal of the game came early in the 2nd half when a 30 yarder hit the crossbar and went in off the keepers back, (un)lucky for them, 3 point for us
Pretty uneventful after that.
we'll be in trouble next week against Gastown

Pylons defaulted. Apparently they were only going to have 6 or 7 players available, so they phoned us and forfeited. The Most Excellent Site has given us a 3-0 win, which was up at 1 pm. Our players showed up anyway, so we got to have a scrimmage before the team bbq. Nice day for it, although we would rather have played...

Friends 2 - Signmaster 2
Friends showed up, but decided not to play football. A couple of starters missing did not help, but regardless Friends played poorly. Take nothing away from signmasters though. They scored two cracking goals. First was a great counter-attack, cross and volley goal. Second goal was a scissor/bicycle kick in the 82nd minute to tie it 2-2.
Apparently Pacifica has had a hard time fielding 11 players. Watch out if they do, because they play with the ball on the ground.
Friends has B United and Pcov in succession. They will be hoping for some positive results.

Another compelling week of div 3 vmsl football is upon us! Should be a dandy, as games are taking on more significance with each passing week.. At this point, which division looks stronger? I am not familiar with the teams in 3B and am curious to know what others think.

Time to sandbag. Is there a template for this yet?
Missing at least half a dozen starters for our game against PCOV tomorrow; we'll be lucky to get any kind of result with us having to rely on the old bhoys to fill in the gaps.

Down 3:0 after only 15 minutes, first goal scored on a questionable PK. first half ended 4:0
Gastown was all over us, we couldn't control the ball at all.
second half totally opposite, we opened with a quick goal and had a couple more chances before they scored the fifth.
Our second goal by Shane(who scored 10 of our 17 goals this season) was amazing, as was Gastown's last.
The feeling was that Gastown is not the strongest team in 3B.
Gastown was all over us, we couldn't control the ball at all.

good game for friends, who bounced back after a tough 2-2 against pacifica, and their WU-TANG logo. friends scored first, and were lucky to keep a 1-0 lead going into the second half. a 2-0 breakaway for B united ended with an offside pass, and a huge let down for them. friends then extended the lead in the 2nd and quickly after B united scored their first. it was 2-1 , but friends did not panick , they played their game and scored the 3rd goal to take all 3 points. Great team game for friends.

Shite scoreline for our game today that honestly didn't reflect the effort the team put into this one.
This was a much closer game than indicated. Great reffing by the same ginger bloke we had for our game against the B's. Our guys were just unlucky to not finish the chances we had.
Up 1-0 within the first 5 minutes after a good start, but the PCOV/KLM joint venture have learned how to recover well; Victor Mansinho's boys play good soccer. They exploited our 47 year old right back and 48 year old centre back and got 2 quick ones back. We shuffled the deck a bit and strengthened, but weren't able to capitalize, and they added another one right before the half.
A bit more shuffling, and things were even back and forth for most of the half. We got one back to close within one goal, but couldn't find an equalizer as lots of chances went begging. Both teams pressed well, but they had better luck. Our centre midfielders traded rocket shots; ours was finger-tipped wide by their keeper, and theirs dinged in off the underside of the crossbar. They added another as we were caught pressing, and it finished 5-2.
May be a different story with a younger and slightly less depleted lineup on the field; I know the bhoys want another shot at this team soon. Cheers all; looking forward to shooting practice on Thursday...
